This blog brings some feminist praxis thoughts together in one place.

There are other layers to peel off semioticslly witch makes me worry how many ways we have it all wrong.

Can you post that again in plain English?

ISaySteadyOn · 28/06/2018 21:13

It's an interesting article about the fact that there are no babies on that info graphic at all, Upstart.

enoughisenough12 · 28/06/2018 21:18

Yup - breastfeeding in the interests of adults - nothing about babies. Completely invisible. Funny that.

DJLippy · 28/06/2018 21:20

Yeah you lost me at Praxis...

DJLippy · 28/06/2018 21:21

^Also it's which, not witch. Freduian slip? Grin

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 28/06/2018 21:35

While I didn't understand the OPs word salad, I agree with the basic premise of the linked blog post.

Breastfeeding is for the benefit of the baby. It is not a prop to validate your identity whether that is transwoman or lentil weaver.

waterlego6064 · 28/06/2018 22:24

That's a great blog post. The meme shows bfing being used as a tool for people to validate their personal identities (identities which incidentally are of absolutely no interest to anyone but the individuals themselves).

smithsinarazz · 28/06/2018 22:41

@ItsAllGoingToBeFine good point.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 28/06/2018 22:54

Thanks for linking, that was great.
One of the key principles of breastfeeding support is that “Breastfeeding is for the baby, not the baby for breastfeeding.” This means that in situations where someone who is not a baby’s birth mother wants to breastfeed that baby, it is legitimate and necessary to ask why, as well as what the costs and benefits may be for both mother and baby

so glad it wasnt just me that was confused by the OP

^ it really does. A baby isn't a prop.

Brilliant take down response!

Thanks for posting it, ixqik

Personally, I’d like to see ‘breastfeeding mother with needlessly undermining older relatives’ and ‘breastfeeding mother with stranger tugging at her in a cafe’ Grin

Great blog. Babies deserve to be the focus, not narcissistic adults.

The legal rights of babies really need to be clarified.

There is nothing in the world like breastfeeding the baby you have given birth to and nurturing them as they grow. The reciprocal love experienced is one of the key aspects of infant development.

The disconnection of biological mother and her baby is constantly being pushed by so many powerful lobbies. Formula companies, the surrogacy industry and now the movement which sees female existence as a consumable market product.

waterlego6064 · 29/06/2018 09:39

Thank you brandnew!

This. Absolutely.

love it! i would like to add a chart with the size of newborn baby's head getting gradually larger and the gigantic humongous full of milk new mother boob getting gradually smaller. somewhere in the middle you hit the sweet spot whereby said baby's head has a decent chance of covering most of boob when feeding in public.

also why is the universal symbol for a baby a bottle?

ChickenMe · 29/06/2018 17:57
