Gender Critical 'Lurkers'

BadasIwannaB · 28/06/2018 19:36

I’ve been reading the Gender Critical threads on Mumsnet for a few months now and I’m ‘delurking’ to say THANK YOU! To all the intelligent, articulate gender critical feminists here - you are my absolute heroes, and you’re really giving me hope!

I’ve thought for a long time that many aspects of the supposedly right-on rhetoric about gender is deeply misogynist, and I was unsettled and annoyed at how much pressure there is on women not to challenge it, and how much supposed ‘feminists’ enforce that pressure. But for a long time I felt like I must be the only person who thought this, because I wasn’t seeing anyone speaking out, and on the v few occasions where I mentioned any of this to friends, it didn’t go down well. So it’s been hugely inspiring and reassuring to see that there’s this growing community here standing up for women against the bullshit. I’ve literally been reading the discussions here every day for the last few months, and it cheers me up so much! I’ve become such a fan of so many of you: LangCleg, Datun, Bowlofbabelfish, Ereshkigal, Angry Attack Kittens, I could go on and on…

So I started wondering, how many people like me are there reading these threads and cheering silently from the sidelines? I’m hoping there are lots of us. I think it’s easy to think we’re a tiny minority because of all the fear surrounding joining the discussion, but maybe if we all delurked we’d see that that’s not the case.

So any other lurkers wanna delurk?

Delurking... 😄

fanominon · 28/06/2018 20:57

I am Lurkacus. I am constantly in awe of the amazingly brave and intelligent women who put themselves out here for the rest of us. A thank you from us all for your energy and determination.

JemAppelleLafayette · 28/06/2018 20:57

I am Lurkacus!

Cooroo · 28/06/2018 20:59

I mostly lurk. But have found FWR alternately inspiring and profoundly depressing over the last year. I've met a few gender critical MNers in real life and the conversation just pours out of us. It's a good feeling!

DeepestDarkestRiver · 28/06/2018 21:00

I am Lurkacus. A long-term, die-hard Lurkacus. But I have to de-lurk to say thank you to those of you who post on these threads regularly. You are inspiring. Star

BarrackerBarmer · 28/06/2018 21:00

Oh, now, this thread just warms my cockles.

Thank you, delurkers. It's so heartening to know you're out there.

Datun · 28/06/2018 21:01

FlowersFlowersFlowers
to all you Lurkacus.

When I am posting, I will, quite frequently say yeah, but I'm not talking to you. Because I'm not.

I'm talking to you lurkers.

Engaging with transactivists is frustrating, pointless, tiring.

The only reason to do it is to put your argument down. It won't persuade them. But I'm not talking to them.

So it's really nice to put names to the people I know I'm talking to.

And thank you for listening.

Abouttoblow · 28/06/2018 21:03

Datun

I don't think you realise how much of an impact you've had.

You're amazing Flowers

DrMumMum · 28/06/2018 21:07

I'm a lurker too and in awe of the articulate way regular posters get their point across. I would definitely have been on the side of the intersectional feminists had it not been for these boards and Magdalen Berns!

I spend 2/3 of my day looking at human tissue under a microscope. You can tell what it is without looking at the details when you've been doing it a while. A vagina looks totally different to a penis under the 'scope! Whenever I hear about neo vaginas and phalloplasty, I always consider how the cells would appear to me, blinded as to where they were taken from (i.e same as they were in the original tissue) and it drives me crazy that male genital tissue could be called female, or vice versa.

I also think we are doing a world of harm to young people who are happy to be gender non-conforming and are now being told they're actually in the wrong body.

Anyway, as my post above proves, I'm not the most articulate of posters, so I thank each and every one of you for keeping me sane in this crazy world!

catkind · 28/06/2018 21:08

Hear hear OP.

KimberWozRobbed · 28/06/2018 21:10

Long time lurked raising a hand too.

KimberWozRobbed · 28/06/2018 21:10

Lurker even

Hornets · 28/06/2018 21:13

Another Lurker delurking here.

Actually its my 2nd time delurking. I did it a few weeks ago and was hoping to start contributing but that's when things on here started to go a bit weird.

So I'm back to lurking but you have to know that I'm here everyday reading everything and following up all the links. That's why this space is so important - I wouldn't have any other way of knowing what is going on.

Massive thanks to you all!

Datun · 28/06/2018 21:15

Abouttoblow

Thank you!

This is awesome.

DrMumMum

Totally articulate. You can't fudge science.

terryleather · 28/06/2018 21:15

*I don't think you realise how much of an impact you've had.

You're amazing*

This is why I said on another thread that Datun posting is like Galadriel appearing - you feel like everything is going to be alright in the end.

Thank you Datun, I learned so much from you and others on the FWR boards before I got up the nerve to post and Thanks to all the de-lurking lurkers!

R0wantrees · 28/06/2018 21:16

DrMumMum
Like you, I began to make sense of things after watching Magdalen Berns . Highly recommend others have a watch if they haven't already!

CigarsofthePharoahs · 28/06/2018 21:17

I have lurked on these threads for quite a while now. I haven't really posted as everything I think of has already been said and usually in a better way than I could manage.
I have learned so much from posters here and have braved a few conversations in real life due to that. Everyone I have spoken to agrees with the gc viewpoint. I've also shared a few articles on facebook, I haven't had any comments good or bad though.

Starkstaring · 28/06/2018 21:24

Sometimes posting but mostly lurking. Fab women on here get me up in the morning, give my brain a work out and give me hope in a crazy world.

heatherblue · 28/06/2018 21:26

I occasionally post on inconsequential boards but lurk here quite a bit. Keep up the good work.

LurkingBee · 28/06/2018 21:26

Long time Lurker here, active elsewhere.

Recently referred to as an "ultra feminist muhajadeen" ( the irony!) by one of Jezza's crew. Wink

You are all amazing, I look in everyday and love you all !

Listening and supporting, and not afraid to speak out in 3D.Flowers

Musthavesbackagain · 28/06/2018 21:28

Another lurker delurking ..... Have been here watching and reading for a couple of years. You regular posters need to know that we are out there, thousands of us, reading and learning and carrying this important message far and wide. Trust me, every word you all write is being passed along from woman to woman - trust me.
Datun - thank you for your endless patience in explaining and debating again and again and again, and never giving up. You help me to make sense of it all. All of you, keep on keeping on.

Ilikelotsofthinngs · 28/06/2018 21:31

I'm mostly a lurker, other than when I'm particularly outraged, drunk or there's cake involved..
For the same reasons as others, I don't feel articulate enough to say anything that hasn't already been said. I should probably practice more here so I can put my point across better in real life.
I have peak transed a couple of people and my 14 year old sister now proudly calls herself a feminist, which to me I something really special and I'm so so proud of her.
Keep up the good work ladies, I'm hoping to meet some of you soon if there's ever a meeting close to where I am.

LangCleg · 28/06/2018 21:31

Awww. I feel a bit weepy!

(Blush at namecheck but thank you)

GrainneWail · 28/06/2018 21:33

I'm a Lurkacus and a learnacus and a very occasional poster. I don't post much as I'm not in the UK so a lot of the practicalities about the GRA etc isn't applicable, but I'm learning so much. Thanks to you all for teaching me in such an understandable way.

FermatsTheorem · 28/06/2018 21:35

High five to all the lurkers - it's how I started out, too many years ago to count (back in the days of Dittany). And YY to Datun's "talking to the lurkers." You are why we keep soldiering on.
