The Handmaid’s Tale, 1984, the current linguistic gymnastics re: sex/gender - read this! It is very clever indeed...

I love the "trigger warnings: feminism, women's rights."

Italiangreyhound · 25/06/2018 21:42

Brilliant.

'Ofjames says these phrases should be regularly rehearsed for deepest reprogramming, to avoid thoughtcrime as well as facecrime. Facecrime occurs when thoughtcrimes are made evident through involuntary facial expressions.'

Ah, the power of “adamant thinking”!

Very enjoyable OP. Thank you.

“They suggest that sex is both real, not real; material, immaterial; different from gender and the same, and relevant and irrelevant."

Renee is brilliant. And very brave in how she's challenged trans ideology in NZ where she lives. She really does have a way with words.

Popchyk · 25/06/2018 22:32

Yes, very good. Well put together.

Renee is, indeed, wonderful. I wish she'd come and say hi here!

Under Bird's Eye!

Maryzsnewaccount · 25/06/2018 23:04

It's weird, because it's obviously satire (and amusing), but then you read sentences like "sex can be nominated and changed either through pharmaceuticals, plastic surgery, adamant thinking, or a combination" and you realise that people not only believe it, but are being supported by those in authority to force other people to say they believe it even when it's obvious that (1) it's a blatant lie and (2) the vast majority of people know it's a lie.

It's a little unsettling.

Ereshkigal · 26/06/2018 01:03

Agree it is!

AngryAttackKittens · 26/06/2018 07:14

It's a little unsettling.

More than a little. The willingness of a significant chunk of the population to submit to authoritarianism has led to terrible things happening in the past and will continue to do so until humanity as a whole learns that sometimes you have to say no even if you might get in trouble for doing so.

Datun · 26/06/2018 07:30

It is indeed unsettling. Because it's all happening just as she says.

ChickenMe · 26/06/2018 08:31

Love it !

JenJames · 26/06/2018 22:38

Yes it is satire, 100% !!!! Renee is an amazing rad fem down here in New Zealand Aotearoa and we need more women like her in the world right now! Behind the humour is a real threat of female erasure and it's time us women all stood up and said enough is enough, it's great to see such insightful comments on your page/ this thread.
