Has anybody been watching the Snatch series this week? BBC4 2200-2230

I've found the monologues interesting and thought provoking. Each monologue lasts for 15 mins and involves one woman talking of women's experiences; powerful narratives.

I've been meaning to watch these. I assume they're on the iplayer. I loved the ones they did celebrating the anniversary of legal homosexuality.

I would think so. It's worth making a point of watching them.

Last night the first one was about violence against women, reclaiming the night, putting men under curfew, then the acknowledgement that abuse in the home will still happen/remain hidden.

The second was an Indian woman railing against British rule and the misogyny within British/Indian culture why she became a freedom fighter and is prepared to die rather than be captured.

BBC 4 have had some interesting programmes recently linked to Hear her/ Her Story, it's just a shame they don't start till 2200.

Last night’s Reclaim The Night was excellent. The young actress was wonderful as was the set.

Agree Carrie, did you also see the one with Shirley Henderson (moaning Myrtle), a woman who has been repeatedly raped by her husband, she'd justified it as pig sex, what pig men do.
Rape in marriage became illegal and she was coming to terms with the fact that she could no longer deny it was rape.

They are really well thought out and depict women's hidden lives

lefthand i saw the Shirley Henderson one, it was hard to watch because it seemed so heartfelt and you could sense the crumbling of defences as she delivered the monologue. It was excellent.

Shirley Henderson is a brilliant, unrated actress, from Hamish Macbeth and Trainspotting, to Miss Marple and everything she has been in since.

CoolCarrie · 21/06/2018 19:09

Will these be available on DVD does anyone think?

lucysnowe · 22/06/2018 13:44

Shirley Henderson's was amazing. I loved the secretary one too. Glad they have been put on tv, as I was a bit miffed that the Queers monologues were nearly all men.

These are fantastic - would urge everyone to watch.
They're all excellent (still have two to go I think) but the cot death one stood out for me, incredibly moving without being sentimental or over-acted.

Wish there was more on tv like this, BBC4 is stellar for airing.
