Said it before. You know why young straight women play the fan-girl with trans women? It's because we are/were just too biologically programmed to ingratiate ourselves with men.

Much better adaptation than mine heresy Spot on the mark.

Men do not suffer sexism or misogyny, Munroe's whole contention that men who say they are women suffer the same oppression as women is based on the idea that women suffer sexism and misogyny due to femininity. But women are not femininity; women have the feminine gender imposed on us to oppress us due to our sex, it's not what we actually are. And we're not subjugated for being feminine, we are subjugated by feminine gender roles, norms and traits being coercively imposed on us due to our reproductive sex, & we are punished for the ways we don't conform.

No man has the experience of being female or having femininity imposed due to their sex or indeed of being punished for non conformity to the feminine/subjugated gender. And if we were to (nonsensically) equate femininity with womanhood, this would be inherently saying that feminine men are really women & non conforming women aren't women at all. Which is clearly a thoroughly regressive idea that both ignores & entrenches the oppression of women & girls.

Sex is the axis of female oppression & the feminine gender is its tool. There is no intersection with men; we have no shared sex or gender experience.

leyat · 19/06/2018 23:13

Oh, and Munroe is both sexist and a misogynist.

Ihuntmonsters · 20/06/2018 00:21

I don't think that was an olive branch. I think it was a calculated insult and intended to add fat to the fire. I also suspect it will be as much disliked by many in the trans community as well as many in the gender critical community as it manages to both trivialise women's health issues and gender dysphoria by using 'periods' as the comparator. Well received by the hard of thinking though.

AngryAttackKittens · 20/06/2018 00:41

Suffering from misogyny and suffering from other people reminding you of reality are not the same thing.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/06/2018 00:43

Good post, leyat.

Faceicle · 21/06/2018 01:21

Thanks for that Leyat. I have been mulling for a while the fact that transwomen and brodudes and female trans allies seem to get very stuck with the idea of systemic sex class oppression. They seem to adopt a, perfectly reasonable, angle of "no two women are the same, every woman has a different life experience" but then use this statement to justify a position wherein men who say that they are women are women. I think it's genuinely difficult for them to understand that all women are oppressed under patriarchy by not being seen as the default human, and this is not the same as saying that women don't have individual life experiences.

I've got periods and depression. Do I win?
