I realise my understanding of this is both minimal and quite possibly inaccurate....
A few years ago?
A Memorandum of Understanding was agreed to by all counsellors and therapists working within the NHS (and outside??) - anyone else?
Which said that they would affirm any young person coming to them who thought they were transgender....
Anyone know more - like how it happened, and what was actually involved?
From the therapists I know, there is a real challenge here as the normal response would be to explore why and how they felt this ... i.e. delving into the roots - and for many recognising that this questioning was just that, and not the "true self" emerging
And this is no longer possible - as affirming is the model now agreed.
Apologies if I have got this totally wrong!
