Why do men think they can just piss anywhere?

We have a bus stop opposite our house, on a green. Today my DS and I were walking across the green and a bus pulled up, a man got off and as soon as the bus drove off he just stood there and had a wee as DS and I walked past!

Why do men think their need to piss is so important that they can just do it in public and we've all got to just put up with it?! He's not the first man that I've seen pissing in full view recently.

It makes me so cross!

I agree, it’s so entitled.

Also, I despise men who spit on the street.

WilsonPhillips · 18/06/2018 22:21

Urgh yes, I agree spitting is revolting too. And lots of men just burp loudly in public too. It's disgusting!

I used to live above a branch of a high street bank. There was an alley down the side of the bank, with cash points near the street and my front door further down the alley. There were numerous bars and restaurants nearby. The number of times I’d walk home and find a man with his penis out peeing all over the alley was pretty gobsmacking. Never a woman, despite us generally having less places to pee.

starzig · 18/06/2018 22:32

I don't like it. I would have to be really desperate. I also don't like people letting their dogs pee in the street either though.

IcedPurple · 18/06/2018 22:54

So bloody rude!

I mean.... if you desperately need to go and nobody's around, maybe it's OK to have a discreet leak behind a bush or whatever. But some blokes think nothing of whipping it out and pissing away in full view of whoever is unfortunate enough to be passing by. If women can manage to hold it in until they get to the nearest toilet, then so can they.

BOO32 · 18/06/2018 23:05

This drives me insane. Did a trip to Bruges recently. They have those public urinals where men stand behind a screen but you can see their legs. I had a massive rant about men being treated as toddlers who are incapable of thinking ahead or controlling themselves. This was in an area with masses of bars so plenty of available private toilets.

SuperDandy · 18/06/2018 23:06

I looked out my kitchen window once to find a neighbour walking along the path whilst having a wee, broad daylight, willy on full display. That was a shocker. Even MIL didn't know what to say, but I'm kind of glad she was there to witness because otherwise no one would have believed me.

Maybe they just do because they can. I confess to having had a wee off my balcony (private, in the dark, and into my own garden) when I first got my hands on a she-wee, but it wasn't just that once and I've never felt the urge to whip it out in public.

BlackForestCake · 18/06/2018 23:13

Someone was asking for examples of male privilege earlier. This is a good one.

The male attitude is "I need to pee, so I'm going to do it. It's perfectly normal, everyone needs to pee, all the public toilets have been closed, I am not hurrying home with crossed legs just in case a stranger thinks I'm disgusting."

On the other hand, if you saw a woman having a pee up an alley you’d possibly assume she had substance abuse issues.

Vicky1990 · 18/06/2018 23:28

Lots of men have prostrate problems that cause pressure on the bladder, my dad has this and it is very distressing for him as he cannot hold on.

FlyingMonkeys · 18/06/2018 23:33

I drove past a mum assisting her young DS having a wee against a bush next to a bus stop the other week. Guessing he'll grow up thinking it's ok.

AssassinatedBeauty · 18/06/2018 23:35

Do women with severe pelvic floor issues pee everywhere? No. They wear incontinence pads and modify where and how they go about their business to avoid getting caught out. Men with prostate issues can do the same.

WilsonPhillips · 18/06/2018 23:41

So many men, including my DH seem to have the sense of entitlement to piss wherever they want. If we're out and DH needs a wee he'll get really moody and keeps saying 'I'm DYING for a piss' as if no one else ever needs the loo.

Ugh this habit is gross. Urinating in public is not ok. I hate seeing people spit in public too. The other one I've seen is watching people blow their nose into their hands and then wiping it on stuff. Extremely gross

Exactly this.
I have the same wee-ing in public rules for DS as for DD.

AssassinatedBeauty · 18/06/2018 23:51

I think young children who are in the toilet training phase are not relevant to this. It's a short phase when you might be in that situation, and you see as many girls being helped to have a wee as boys. Once they're reliable then there is the expectation that they can wait. I don't think it's common at al for parents to allow older children to do this.

LemonysSnicket · 19/06/2018 00:00

A man pissed next to me at the bus stop at 8.30am the other week. Clearly v drunk, luckily another man, maybe 19, told him to stop being such a disgrace and stood between us.

LemonysSnicket · 19/06/2018 00:01

And friends of mine (male) always wonder why I wish to use the loo in the place we're leaving before I go ... because if I squatted on a street I'm sure I'd be arrested or offend the surrounding area!

ItsNotUnusualToBe · 19/06/2018 00:01

Free range cocks. Literally and metaphorically

Or is that transphobic?

Ummmmgogo · 19/06/2018 00:03

I think it's more the practicalities. if I could wee standing up I would outdoor wee more frequently.

FlyingMonkeys · 19/06/2018 00:04

Child in question looked about 4yrs old. Dd at that age would have been mortified if I'd suggested she pulled down her underwear to wee in public. Amplified by fact that there was a petrol station 200m away with a public toilet in it. I don't think I've ever seen a young girl vs a young boy encouraged to wee outside by a parent. I think it's a far more 'accepted' thing in society that little boys are allowed to 'have a quick wee if they must' by parents. Obviously as an adult it's a very different situation but still.

Tiggerzz · 19/06/2018 00:09

Men were stood about pissing into the mud at Leeds Festival last year, in full view of everyone. It was vile. My OH gets really pissy (if you'll excuse the pun!) if we're out and he needs to go, he seems to think it's a great injustice if he can't go Right There And Then.

Spitting in the street is absolutely vile and I hate men who do this. They'll often look really aggressively at you whilst doing it in a kind of 'what are you gonna do about it?' way. And I am too intimidated to say anything Sad

thebewilderness · 19/06/2018 00:10

Outside bars and pubs urine pools are such a problem that some municipalities are installing hydrophobic paint and signs warning the wall piss back.

Herbalteahippie · 19/06/2018 00:11

YANBU- today I saw a dad let his preteen kid piss next to their car, parked outside an open McDonald’s. Grrrrrr

Tiggerzz · 19/06/2018 00:22

Loving the idea of hydrophobic paint Grin

When I was in Brussels, at 9pm I came to use a public loo. The women's loo was shut and locked, the disabled loo was shut and locked, but the gents was still open. I'd just had a coil fit and had a slightly irritated uterus and a pelvis full of lidocaine, I was not happy. I'm actually going to copy this onto the male privilege thread.
