If I identified as trans - Eddie Izzard

I'd be seriously concerned that this person who claims to represent the trans issue is making a hash of said issue, and politics in general:

twitter.com/LOLabourLive/status/1007980764321939457
"I'm a member of the NEC. I've been a member of the NEC for about two weeks now. And I'm running for re-election right now, that's how relection works right now. ...I believe we have a slogan for the Labour Party, For the Many, Not the Few [what, you just found out Eddie?]"

Eddie in another LabourLive clip talks about 100 years of suffragettes "women, or , er, and transgender people...'2018. the end of the first world war. and er, we exist. so if you ever get depressed about the global situation draw a graph of human rights from ancient Eyypt...."

I used to admire Eddie for reclaiming stereotypical 'women's' clothing to represent the bandwidth of male.

Eddie seems to have recently swallowed the transgender agenda, and then got so confused that Eddie's not able to put together a coherent speech that doesn't involve ice-cream, ancient Egypt or, well, erm, I'm not sure. (And yep, you can shout at me 'it's just humour' but the 25 people amassed by the stage didn't seem to think it was humour either!).

It's Sunday, I've had a glass of wine, and this thread may not make sense, but I used to be a) a Labour supporter, b) a trans 'ally' and c) an Eddie Izzard fan.

WTF happened in the last couple of years that excluded some females from the above?

(Rhetorical question for many women on this board!)

He was mentioned in today's Sunday Times in connection with Jezfest:

Eddie Izzard, whose transition into Anne Robinson seems nearly complete

Picassospaintbrush · 17/06/2018 19:27

nauticant

Best laugh of the day, thanks.

Viago · 17/06/2018 19:28

Grin nauticant

He was really reminding me of Ben Swain from TTOI in those clips.

NotAnejaculatorOrProstateOwner · 17/06/2018 19:31

Is it phobic to say that I enjoyed h[redacted I don't want to misgender] marathon BBC program running [redacted] < Sex description?

DickTERFin · 17/06/2018 19:32

Incoherent wittering... let's talk about me and for a bit... and let's talk a bit more about me... and here's another thing you need to know about me... and just something else about me that is very interesting and relevant... incoherent wittering...

Interview from 2010
'Eddie Izzard: straight but not linear
He's a transvestite, heterosexual standup comic and actor who ran 43 marathons in 51 days – as a new DVD documentary makes clear, Eddie Izzard's life has been far from predictable'

Watching the clips from Labour Live, it was a fucking car crash.

And I really mean my original title.

If I was trans, I would be extremely disappointed by this person representing me in the echelons of Labour as the 'trans' agenda.

He seems confused.

I'd be pissed off he now seems to be a significant influencer there.

Mind you, the other representatives who seem to be significant influencers to Jez re. trans also give me concern. LM/SB I'm looking at you.

I've lost the will to live!

Labour's losing women, people in general, even those who live in London who fancied seeing Clean Bandit for free yesterday!

NB: I WAS A LABOUR VOTER, YOU TWATS!

And settles down to R4 gentle stuff tonight, after shouting at the internet.

First time I've ever started a thread I think.

Breathes!

And sends warm vibes to all the lovely gender critical people here, on twitter lurking on here, across the world. Just all of us who are fighting for women and girls' rights -and I mean that in the biological meaning of that word.

(Soz MN, been here years, hope you don't strike me for this thread. Your community saw me through baby stage, toddler stage, every stage after that. I'm pretty sure that this latest fight against women's rights has activated so many of us who you helped through these stages of mothering).

Sunday GRRRR!

And I sit here in front a newspaper dated 1960 tonight.

"york police are still searching the motroist who enticed a seven-year-old girl into his car and assualted her in a wood near the city"

That is about sexual-based crime.

Not because that seven-year-old girl in 1960 'identified' as a girl.

Not because of '99 ice creams'. Not because of stereotpical clothing.

Because that seven year old girl was a girl.

Help us. Don't trample over us for your own agenda.

I realise I may be talking to myself right now!

(Note to self: not always a good idea to start a new thread!)

OP posts:
Picassospaintbrush · 17/06/2018 20:12

pombear - thanks for the thread, I was reading the paper. It's sad to see Labour so off.

Politics is so cyclical isn't it? I have only ever voted libdem (tactically) and they are now a shower of shite.

pombear · 17/06/2018 20:15

Thanks Picasso - I'm a responder, not a starter usually. But I'm so cross about so many issues right now for women.

And yes, it's cyclical.

And I have no home right now, politically. Women (biological females) are being fucked over in so many ways.

OP posts:
Picassospaintbrush · 17/06/2018 20:32

Women are politicking in their own name now. We don't need a party. We are doing it.

argumentativefeminist · 17/06/2018 20:33

Not getting into the gender business with you lot again but this wasn't part of Eddies scheduled set, just to be pedantic. It was wittering and not always very funny because Eddie was sent on to fill the time while a sound check took place for the band about to perform, I guess to keep the audience engaged. Gender politics aside, when put on the spot instead of reading a prepared statement/planned jokes, people will tend to say things that are less clear, more easily twisted and more ambiguous.

ReluctantCamper · 17/06/2018 20:35

i heard eddie izzard being a twat on the radio this week

'i just want to be an example to people. I want people to see me and think if he (? I think that's the pronoun izzard used) can be transgender in middle age then so can I' (I paraphrase slightly). Me me me.

Eddie mate, you used to display self awareness. what happened?

pombear · 17/06/2018 20:37

Ah, thanks argumentative. I was a bit confused. So you mean later on he just would have said stuff that didn't mean earlier stuff Hmm

OP posts:
argumentativefeminist · 17/06/2018 20:40

I dont know what Eddie said later on as I wasn't there. I just thought it's unfair to claim that someone is "making a hash" out of something which tends to imply a sort of bumbling unpreparedness where you end up putting your foot in it, when they weren't actually anticipating having to be prepared.

pombear · 17/06/2018 20:42

I've just done a bit of relfection on the above. And it's really exciting for my job.

So that means, before I've prepared properly for a presentation, anything I say before that, if it's a bit unclear, a bit more ambiguous, it doesn't count?

Thank the fuck, as I'm often a bit all over the place before a formal presentation.

PS: Does that count for people like Theresa May too - if she's not doing something super-formal, she was just a bit 'wittering and filling the time' so thank fuck it didn't really mean anything?

OP posts:
ballsballsballs · 17/06/2018 20:44

I remember the when Eddie Izzard identified as funny.

I hear you OP. I didn't bother voting in my local elections.

pombear · 17/06/2018 20:46

Ahh, argumentative I believe he was on the bill. So It's not like he was accidentally shoved on stage to say something, so someone else wasn't there.

Is that where we're going now?

Oops - didn't mean to be on stage, didn't mean what I said, someone else was going to say something, not me, not 'cos there weren't any people out in front? Was just pushed onto the stage cos I'm a nice person and wanted to say something to the (small) audience, didn't plan stuff??!!! Just accidentally being re-elected to the NEC. Whoops - Frank Spencer style?

OP posts:
argumentativefeminist · 17/06/2018 20:47

We're going to go round in circles here because we have totally different opinions about Eddies representation of the trans community here and about the role of women and trans people in politics. I just thought I should elaborate on the immediate context for anyone who wasn't there incase it wasn't clear from the clips, so that people could take that information on board when making their decision. I wasn't trying to sway anyone either way, but a lack of situational context is what leads to fake news in all its forms, which is harmful for both sides of this debate.

noraclavicle · 17/06/2018 20:49

Eddie has got used to success and adulation. He found it harder than expected to get onto the NEC. Presumably he wants to be an MP. He’s going to take the easiest route he can find.
