We are able to recommend a cleaning product for that problem, but not in feminist chat.

I just spotted this too.

FFS!

Mossandclover · 15/06/2018 16:01

Why did he object? Was it badly worded and would have unintended consequences???? (Only justifiable reason I can think of)

MillyTheKid · 15/06/2018 16:03

His Wikipedia bio is a bit of a right-wing wankfest. Bring back conscription, hanging etc etc etc and vote against any progressive policy going.

Neolara · 15/06/2018 16:03

Can I suggest that this topic is not just confined to the feminist boards. It deserves a much wider audience.

MP for Christchurch where they weigh his vote to save counting it.

What sort of a place is Christchurch, politically?

This sort of a place:

I don't know but Richard Herring tweeted as follows:
I can only assume we now know what Sir Christopher Chope’s main hobby is. I think we should name it Choping in honour of him

He fillibusters everything, he doesn't believe in private member's Bills unless he's bringing them himself to stop other MPs bringing in theirs. Total SOB. Very secure Tory seat.

Kyanite · 15/06/2018 16:10

Christchurch is the OAP capital of the country.

mycelialnetwork · 15/06/2018 16:12

He's not my MP, but close. He's a vile, sexist, homophobic, racist xenophobe. And that's just how his friends describe him 😏

mycelialnetwork · 15/06/2018 16:16

Christchurch is actually a lovely town, but you're right it is white, middle class oap, ukip/Tory supporter central. No doubt they would defend him and his right to object to the hilt.

As my mum always says, the Tories could bring in compulsory murder of all first born children and the people of rural Dorset would applaud the effort to reduce the overcrowding in inner cities.

Kyanite · 15/06/2018 16:16

This is what he does and the constituents that vote for him won't care.

Liberal Democrat MP Wera Hobshouse, who brought the private member's bill to Parliament, has criticised the "out-of-touch Tory" for "sabotaging" it.

Ms Hobshouse's bill would have made upskirting a criminal offence in line with other voyeurism offences - meaning offenders could face a maximum of two years in prison.

It was expected to pass after justice minister Lucy Frazer confirmed the government would back it.

But the rules in Parliament mean it only requires one MP to shout "object" to block a bill's progress.

Apparently it's partly our fault. #askingforit

Just seen this on the news. It’s not clear why he objected but he apparently blocks most bills as he thinks they should go under much more scrutiny first.

enoughisenoughtoday · 15/06/2018 18:20

This gives a useful background: www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/upskirt-photos-law-illegal-criminal-offence-needed-campaigners-statistics-10-girls-children-police-a8218491.html

TBH, I'm not certain that a lot of Christchurch residents would be happy that their daughters and granddaughters are not protected from upskirting because of Chope's actions. Once it's called out for the creepy (and with children) child abusive behaviour that it is, he could be in for some tricky questions (hope I'm not clutching at straws).

SwearyG · 15/06/2018 18:42

Who feels that we should follow the Truro ladies and organise a women’s rights meeting in Christchurch? We could invite the local Tories to send a representative. I think It would be a great response.

enoughisenoughtoday · 15/06/2018 18:43

Great idea Sweary - perhaps with a particular focus on sexual harassment and assault as their MP is evidently not bothered about that.
