Wikipedia says that Graham Linehan is a 'raging transphobe'. Does this sound like reasonable language for the world's encyclopedia to be using?

Lol. Sounds like a 6 year old wrote that. And no it's not appropriate for an otherwise really good resource. Whoever wrote that should lose their rights to edit wiki.

BigGreenOlives · 14/06/2018 22:16

I just screenshotted Wikipedia, think it’s been tidied up.

Agree noqont. Ridiculous.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 14/06/2018 22:30

Let em rip. He's a bit of a role model as far as a lot of people are concerned

iBiscuit · 14/06/2018 22:31

Any idiot can edit a Wikipedia entry, then any idiot can come along and correct it thank goodness.

DJLippy · 14/06/2018 22:32

It does show the misogynistic nature of such a platorm no? I've read similar thread on mumsnet regarding the male bias (10/1) of Wikipedia. How did this ever get published?

Yeah - I had a look earlier - it was a battle that raged on all day Grin with Wikipedia undoing the edits over and over.

They've frozen the edits now I think.

It does seem to. Not so long ago there was a battle over the definition of woman and who was included in that category. Not sure who eventually won that. Or maybe the battle still continues. Like it does in real life.

Good.

NotTerfNorCis · 14/06/2018 22:38

He's doing brilliantly on Twitter. Really fighting his (our) corner. It's obviously something he feels strongly about, and good for him.

IDontBowlOnShabbos · 14/06/2018 22:39

Is this over the Ian Huntly thing? Of all the hills you could chose to die on why would you pick a child murderer? It just makes some TRA's look so completely far removed from reality.

mancheeze · 14/06/2018 22:39

I remember being a pretty regular editor over there and it just turned into every other dude infested swamp on the internet.

I try NOT to use WIKI as a source for anything.

thebewilderness · 14/06/2018 22:41

The misogynists at Wiki drive the women away as fast as they join the editing team.
Trying to put factual information on any page about women is nearly impossible. You spend weeks arguing in favor of facts with misogynists who want all feminist pages to be one paragraph and include the accusation of misandry or transphobia.
FYI, this statement is based on my experience as a Wiki editor ten years ago,

DJLippy · 14/06/2018 23:08

Whenever somebosy says (as many folk on Twitter have said against Graham) "Is this the Hill you want to die on" I always think of this

To be fair that's a pretty nice hill, I'd be happy with that!

It looks like Graham is holding his own and the TRA's come across as complete idiots. From an outsider's perspective who hasn't really been paying much attention to the whole argument anyway.

NotBadConsidering · 14/06/2018 23:25

Last week the Father Ted wiki page had no references to Linehan writing it at all. They're back now.

DJLippy · 14/06/2018 23:29

He's a hero. He's putting his head above the parapet when you know there are many public figures who agree with him but they're too scared.
I had a day of abuse on one of his threads but I am glad that his 700,00 followers can see what loons the TRA types are WGLTGH

OP posts:
BoiledFrog · 14/06/2018 23:32

I knew he must be a goodun, nobody who wrote father Ted or the IT crowd could be a bad person.

iBiscuit · 16/06/2018 12:52

He's turned me into an embarrassingly grateful fangirl. He's been brilliant.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 16/06/2018 14:05

Yes. I do love that he just says 'fuck off and fuck yourself'

But then it makes me sad that women just can't do that in online spaces at all.

HornyTortoise · 16/06/2018 17:54

It says the page has been locked to prevent vandalism now

Good response, but out of curiosity..do they lock the pages of gender critical women when the TRAs start targeting them?
