Cancer Research: anyone with a cervix

Not sure how to link to Twitter, but Cancer Research UK have a pinned tweet which says:

'Cervical screening (or the smear test) is relevant for everyone aged 25-64 with a cervix. Watch our animation to find out what to expect when you go for screening #CervicalScreeningAwarenessWeek'

Everyone with a cervix? I think in their attempt to be inclusive, they are potentially excluding women who may not know about their own biology. Plus, they still refer to men with regard to prostate cancer:

www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/prostate-cancer

It's only women who are unable to be named, apparently.

Kiri Tunks is a teacher and trade unionist and a founder member of Woman’s Place UK.

"Cancer Research has removed the word ‘woman’ from advice on cervical screening. As someone who had treatment for pre-cancerous cells in my early 20s, this really worries me.

I remember the death of Jade Goody from cervical cancer at the age of 27 and how her death was used to spearhead a campaign to get young women to get checked. Now numbers are dropping again.

How is the erasure of sex from this guidance going to help address this?

The truth is that many, many women and girls are in ignorance of their bodies – not helped by a failure of this country to make sex and relationships education statutory. ‘Everyone with a cervix’ excludes women who don’t know what a cervix is. There will be added obstacles for women for whom English is a second language or those with poor literacy..... " continues

Looks like Anna Turley MP could do with some support following her tweet.

The TRAs are out in force.

While I feel bad for anyone who gets abuse for asking a simple question, I do think that MPs should realise what is going on. Labour have completely capitulated to the transgender cult so they need to feel the consequences of that.

Pink News pointed out that Anna Turley had asked a question (and of course they only did that to rally the troops for a pile-on) and then the Labour Women's Officer for Rochester and Strood was predictably "sad to see this from a Labour MP".

I'm hoping that this might be a wake-up call for at least one MP.

IamXXHearMeRoar · 18/06/2018 09:30

Is there any update on this madness?

Why are so few press outlets covering this?

How long before the accountants demand a rethink?

Popchyk · 18/06/2018 09:51

It was covered in a few of them I think.

Times, Mail, Telegraph, Huff, Evening Standard, Sky.

The Guardian wouldn't cover that kind of story because it is about the erasure of women and therefore not newsworthy to the 15 readers that it has left.

There will be a much bigger outcry when their "people with prostates" campaign is launched.

Mogleflop · 18/06/2018 10:00

Nah, men will just laugh it off. They're not being erased.

The only thing that will change these campaigns are their results and the impact they have.

If CRUK raise more awareness this way (and they might be doing that if it's getting a big reaction) then they'll do it again. If not they'll revert.

IamXXHearMeRoar · 18/06/2018 10:31

BBC haven't covered it.

Andrew Marr didn't mention it.

I firmly believe that money is the only thing that will change this.

Pratchet · 18/06/2018 10:35

No, the Guardian and the BBC won't. They're hand in hand on women's rights.

SardineReturns · 18/06/2018 10:48

CRUK still refers to "females" on this page, anyone want to flag this with them? All mention of female needs to go.

Popchyk · 18/06/2018 10:54

Had a look on Gransnet

They were not happy about it and some of them have written to CRUK to say so.

Grin bigots. I call for more inclusivity!

This Parent's or Guardian's Day, join the fight (if you want to).
Save the non-gendered-specific-being (should you think that any life has inherent value and be continued as long as possible).

Popchyk · 18/06/2018 15:39

CRUK has issued a further tweet:

"You can ask for a woman or a man to do your screening when you book your appointment. You can also take someone with you on the day"

twitter.com/CR_UK/status/1008444678998544385

Of course everyone is now asking if they mean female when they say woman. I have a feeling they won't be answering that one. Because the wrath of Pink News will be upon them if they dare mention that women are female.

This campaign is entering omnishambles territory.

Melamin · 18/06/2018 16:41

Oh dear, they are in the mire Hmm

Why are GIRES deciding the language. Who made them the language police?

R0wantrees · 18/06/2018 16:53

Additional challenges to CRUK's campaign.

I had to look up A/B testing:
"Make sure that before you start testing you have a clear idea of the results you’re looking for. You should already know your baseline result, which is the results you’re currently getting. You want to test option A and B against each other, but you also want to know that whichever one does better in the test is also doing better than your current results."

Totally.

What would clarification look like a I wonder....
"You can ask for anyone with a vagina or a anyone who once had a vagina or man with a vagina or a man with a penis or a person with a penis who identifies as a woman or a man with a penis who also identifies as a man"

Because God forbid they use the word that woman means a biological woman......!

This is one of the most irresponsible things that this trans 'crusade' has caused yet.

Kettlepotblackagain · 18/06/2018 17:32

The more I think about it more I think CRUK was being deliberately provocative with that Tweet. Partly covering their own arses (at least that's a 'universal' body part although there's probably people without arses, who have never feels connected to their arses, who I have offended using that word etc etc) to 'show' that they do use the word 'woman'.

To be honest their whole attitude toward this smacks of smug righteousness. I know they issued some small, pathetic response to that tweet 'some agreed, some didn't' or something, but then to put this out there a few days later...sorry, smacks of a PR campaign to just not admit to the fact they fucked up and try and prove a point with subsequent tweets like these.
