This is just getting flipping ridiculous now. Munroe has made one very recent, very shoddy documentary.

Thrilled to be opening the @BFI #WomanWithAMovieCamera Summit to talk about feminism, power and culture.

MB should really decline this on the grounds that this is treating MB as a man not a woman. No woman would ever be selected for something like this if their entire filmwork portfolia amounted to a single shitty documentary. The fact that MB is so poorly qualified for this and has been placed over much more experienced biological females shows that MB is still being treated as a man. MB should refuse this and denounce the BFI for its transphobia.

YY. Absolutely this.

SuitedandBooted · 15/06/2018 14:37

In what sense is Munroe a "filmmaker"? Genuine question.

According to the credits "What makes a Woman" was produced and directed by Karen McGann

agerbil quotes a poster writing:

No, wrong analogy! As Bergdorf has expressed deep hatred of women, that is not the equivalent. The equivalent would be:

Now it just looks like I'm spamming Grin

Writersblock2 · 15/06/2018 15:50

Spam away - I love it!!! Wish I lived close enough to join in.

R0wantrees · 15/06/2018 15:52

Maybe we could send postcards?

Agerbilatemycardigan · 15/06/2018 15:53

They're brilliant. And they do it all with such good humour. It's never aggressive or nasty. Long may they continue!

Writersblock2 · 15/06/2018 15:54

Postcard spam - actually, that would be a fab co-ordinated effort for something. If enough people did it just imagine the annoyance.

Agerbilatemycardigan · 15/06/2018 15:56

If you've got Twitter, you can support them that way. Women send pics of themselves doing 'manly' things. Sometimes they wear beards - one of them wore a mankini to a men's only pool Grin

TransplantsArePlants · 15/06/2018 16:04

BFI= Better Female that I

SwearyG · 15/06/2018 16:07

We were described as “aggressive women with placards”. Which clearly is how we behave...

Obviously we made no impact with BFI but we did talk to a lot of people who see our viewpoint. One man was worried that we are transphobic but when we spoke he got that we have the same worries and issues. I really liked that exchange.

We don’t have huge numbers on our protests but we do have good humour. If you could share (and hashtag) our tweets we’d be forever grateful.

Kettlepotblackagain · 15/06/2018 16:11

Yes Man Friday! Smile

CallingDannyBoy · 15/06/2018 16:11

Signed, loved the #Underhiseye on one of the poster at the BFI.

LangCleg · 15/06/2018 16:14

We were described as “aggressive women with placards”.

Yes, but creative aggressive women with placards. BFI should appreciate it!

IcedPurple · 15/06/2018 16:14

Statement from the BFI:

^In a statement, the BFI said: “For our keynote speaker we expressly wanted a voice outside of film-making that could widen the lens. We invited Munroe because she represents a contemporary and interesting perspective on the subjects of the day.

“We appreciate that Munroe’s involvement has provoked a strong and mixed reaction and we hope it will help further the gender debate in a positive and constructive way and encourage audiences to recognise and acknowledge the quality and value of difference, which we believe is a benefit to our industry and to our wider society.”^

Not good enough BFI. Not near.
