Will transactivists demonstrate on Wednesday at WNNT?

Am I being optimistic to think that there won't be a demo of masked millennials at Wednesday's meeting in Euston?

I haven't seen the usual 'no terfs on our turf' Sisters Uncut 'counter demo' events.

I wonder if we've finally got to the stage where we can get together and discuss women's rights without fear of assault.

Hmm

I think you might be right. If there are protesters I think they'll send out the 'c*s allies', women with blue hair. I think it's finally happening. Thanks to you and Woman's Place and everyone else.

Ereshkigal · 12/06/2018 01:45

They're not the brightest sparks, but maybe they finally realise it's counterproductive.

thebewilderness · 12/06/2018 01:48

They looked so bad in the video where they were threatening women on the steps all garbed up in black with masks on that it has become fairly obvious that the demonstrations send the opposite message the transgender advocates want to send.

drradfem · 12/06/2018 01:50

I wonder if even the 'cis allies' will turn up. They must've seen how bad the protest in Bristol looked for their movement on the Munroe doc. I know there's been people looking for the venue to harass but they're a different crowd and at least they don't scare and intimidate the attendees. They are a massive pain in the arse tho

Hi Doc,

I think that the tide is turning. Transactivists took a big hit this week. Two T shirt companies stopped the selling of shirts containing the hate slur TERF. They failed to get Transgender Trend's schools pack fundraiser shut down and therefore helped them to raise all the money needed. Connecticut parents are suing high school sports for allowing men to compete and WIN against the girls. We can't forget about the lesbian who was called TERF and beaten outside a bar in St. Louis.

I'll say it again:

I think the general public is on our side. Just KEEP being open and speaking about these issues.

LangCleg · 12/06/2018 09:33

I think the military gear and the attack dog (!) at Skepticat's court proceedings also did the rounds more than they thought it would - and not in a good way.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/06/2018 10:10

Agreed. It also got quite a bit of attention that the judge/magistrate instructed her to call her attacker 'she/her' because that was what the attacker wanted, on the grounds that it would be courteous. The irony of telling the victim to be courteous to her attacker was off the scale.

Also getting these two images put alongside each other so often was extremely helpful.

Great

I thought some TRA had worked out where the venue was and they started doing their usual bombardment of calls / threats...

Do you know if they've tried it on?

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 12/06/2018 10:54

Placemarking. I'm coming.

Did you know that a group of women wrote to the Judicial Council complaining that Maria was forced to use female pronouns for her attacker? It gained over 600 signatures.

Drradfem refused to sign it, because she has an issue against one of the radfems who was working hard collecting the signatures. She actually wrote an email stating this, putting her refusal in writing. Her reason was that the radfem in question once disagreed with her, months ago, on a tiny issue.

Apparently, dissent is not permissible and women who fail to toe the VA line will be punished with "consequences".

That's her choice. We don't all have to be exactly the same and agree on exactly the same things. There is however a common belief, that transwomen are not women. That's enough. And that's ok too.

drradfem · 12/06/2018 20:04

I didn't sign that letter because I didn't want to be involved with the woman who was organising it. I don't think that's punishing anyone, I think that's common sense.

I've never discussed this publicly but if @Southfields would like to, please go right ahead Hmm

Ive been looking forward to watching the livestream of this meeting - am not on Facebook though, I assumed I could watch through the website? Is this not the case?

thebewilderness · 12/06/2018 21:43

Your authoritarian slip is showing, Southfields. You can't compel people to cosign letters if they choose not to, but I thank you for showing us who you are.

GeordieTerf · 12/06/2018 22:24

Tbh, the silence worries me more than public shouting... I don't think they will let us win this easily.

NotTerfNorCis · 13/06/2018 18:22

What's your Twitter hashtag?

GibbertyFlibbert · 13/06/2018 18:30

It might sound flippant - it isn't - a lot of groups will find it harder to get people to turn out during the World Cup
