Let a Woman Speak - the next event!

Hi everyone. So we are just pondering our next event (likely: Plymouth).

Either strike while the iron is hot and try and get something sorted for early August, or wait until the summer hols are over and people are more likely to be around and aim for very early Sep. I can see merits in both.

There’s no set date for consultation...yet!

We want to involve all of you lovely women as much as possible and value your input!

please come to Scotland!

Writersblock2 · 11/06/2018 13:47

I think we’d need a pretty hefty donation to be able to consider that at the moment! :)

Hope I can make this one, I'd plump for early Sep?

ThinkIveFoundYourMarbles · 11/06/2018 20:55

Northern Ireland!! Smile

Ereshkigal · 11/06/2018 21:37

It's so brilliant that you are building a network for women in the SW.

Writersblock2 · 12/06/2018 07:14

Thanks everyone. We sat down and did some brainstorming yesterday. Exciting things to come from us (I hope!).

I so badly wanted to attend the one in Truro - were there many protesters? Plymouth is far enough away that I won't be spotted. I know thats very cowardly of me.

Does anyone have plans to meet up around Cornwall to have a debrief of the event?

Writersblock2 · 12/06/2018 09:13

@hairyharrison - no protesting at all. :)

Well, what do you mean by a debriefing? I’ve sat down with my co-organiser and we are working on moving things forward. We’ve had some people volunteer to help out. So it’s all very positive. :)

Oh ffs - the only reason I didnt go.

I guess I was thinking there may be a group of SW woman who met up to discuss all these issues in a more casual way.

I will definitely go to the Plymouth one. So glad things are moving forward positively.

RaininSummer · 13/06/2018 23:00

Hairy..I think many of us do want to get together as a group. What a shame you didn't come. Can I add that I think Cornyn and Writers did a great job at keeping us safe even though we luckily didn't attract protesters.

Writersblock2 · 13/06/2018 23:36

Safety of attendees is really important so we did a number of things to help with that. We would be doing similar in Plymouth - would love to see you there!

We don’t have a casual regular meet-up, no, though I think it would be interesting to do something like that. If we had enough interest from women who would be able to meet regularly (say, monthly) and also contribute to moving the work forward, then I think it would be worthwhile.

@raininsummer I would love to be included if that's ok. Even if it's just a coffee in a park where we can talk freely. I am very in the peak trans closet at the moment.

It wasn't so much that I was scared for my safety although I know that's a massive possibility- I have a teenager in the area and it can be such a small place sometimes, I was worried someone she knows would see me and she might be ostracised.

PositivelyPERF · 13/06/2018 23:47

I second Northern Ireland.

BlackeyedSusan · 13/06/2018 23:50

The petition map changed to a darker orange in the sw after your meeting..

good luck with the next one.

Writersblock2 · 14/06/2018 00:01

Now THAT is interesting to hear. :D

just my perception. sw is easy to see.(big constituencies) I looked beofre and after at some point and noticed the change.

RaininSummer · 14/06/2018 10:41

HairyHarrison - nothing is organised or even planned as yet but I know many of us expressed an interest. One of the problems is that the South West is such a large area geographically which makes meeting up more tricky. Will send you a message.

therealposieparker · 14/06/2018 13:21

You'll get less protesters in the summer when the Uni is on a break x
