Join Sheila Jeffreys, Nicole Jones and Anne Ruzylo for the We Need To Talk event Inconvenient Women on Wednesday 13th June 7-10pm in London.

Lesbian feminists Sheila Jeffreys and Nicole Jones discuss the implications of transgender rights activism for women and children.

Sheila Jeffreys, Professorial Fellow at the University of Melbourne, will analyse the Yogyakarta Principles, the foundations of the promotion of gender identity in international law.

Nicole Jones is an art sudent student and activist and will discuss how these laws will affect us. Former Labour Women's Officer and trade unionist, Anne Ruzylo, will chair the meeting.

This meeting will be filmed by TV broadcasters and live streamed.

Due to violent opposition to these meetings from transactivists we cannot disclose the venue details.

Meeting point is Costa Coffee, 1 Duke's Road, London WC1H 9PJ near Euston station from 6pm. There will someone there to direct you to the nearby venue until 7pm.

Both the cafe and the venue are fully accessible for disabled attendees.

Beautiful night. Many many strands of work going on were discussed. Lots of initiatives are picking up speed. The Scottish were there, a vagard. The legal group setting up, we discussed fundraising tactics. The King's college project, discussed that.
Any way its 2am and I have to work today,.
Had to leave the party. Beautiful women.

I couldn't stay for the pub, but really enjoyed hearing the speakers.
Can anyone tell me the organisation Bettina (?) the person talking about the Scottish consultation and article 2048 adoption by the European parliament was mentioning? I think she said ILAW but I couldn't find it on Google - international women's......

Terfnserf · 14/06/2018 07:53

Enjoyed my first meeting, apart from the lift! Sorry I couldn't get to say bye to the other three ladies I met at costa

Brilliant to meet some of you yesterday.

Really inspired and totally chuffed I bumped into one of you in the street after watching the live stream and went for drinks!!!

Hey @MsBeee

TransplantsArePlants · 14/06/2018 19:26

Who were the young men there - dealing with the tech stuff? I was idly wondering what they were making of it (i have sons of a similar age)

TransplantsArePlants · 14/06/2018 19:30

Not that that was the most important thing... It was great to be at my first meeting. Wonderful to see the people I'd only heard of on here in person. I was moved by the contribution of the women in the audience who'd previously worked at Stonewall

MsBeee · 14/06/2018 20:14

Hello Posie :)

MsMcWoodle · 14/06/2018 20:26

Great meeting. Couldn't believe how many people were there. You never get to see the audience from the live streams. It was so packed people were standing round the edges.
Great speeches. Very inspired today. Need to get organised.

@LittleLebovski I gave Bettina my email address last night so when she gets in touch I’ll ask her if it would be OK to forward her email address to you. I have few proper skills but have volunteered myself to do some fund-raising for them. Last night’s meeting was so interesting, inspiring and motivating even though I went along on my own.

The thing I found most noteworthy was the same thing I felt at the Basingstoke meeting; the overwhelming feeling that you were surrounded by a group of women who were all simply dying to talk about GC topics and have someone else to whom they could safely say "It's all bollocks, isn't it?!". That feeling of joy at having someone else to talk to wasn't limited to me, I think.

Also, I may be odd but I really enjoyed being in the company of lots of lesbians - the pervasive air of 'The men are not our concern' was very enjoyable, to me anyway! Wish I'd known the song Kate was singing, I'd have joined in for solidarity Grin

I got watch the livestream from thousands of miles away. It was brilliant. Thanks to all the participants.

Thanks BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted, someone else PM'd me about it (her name was Fatina) - it sounded really good.
I thought Kate's singing was amazing - what a great voice! Thanks for the link.

Ereshkigal · 15/06/2018 08:18

Fatina is the right name.

I wish every woman could experience the sheer joy of woman-only organising and meeting.

Thanks Cunning!
