Join Sheila Jeffreys, Nicole Jones and Anne Ruzylo for the We Need To Talk event Inconvenient Women on Wednesday 13th June 7-10pm in London.

Lesbian feminists Sheila Jeffreys and Nicole Jones discuss the implications of transgender rights activism for women and children.

Sheila Jeffreys, Professorial Fellow at the University of Melbourne, will analyse the Yogyakarta Principles, the foundations of the promotion of gender identity in international law.

Nicole Jones is an art sudent student and activist and will discuss how these laws will affect us. Former Labour Women's Officer and trade unionist, Anne Ruzylo, will chair the meeting.

This meeting will be filmed by TV broadcasters and live streamed.

Due to violent opposition to these meetings from transactivists we cannot disclose the venue details.

Meeting point is Costa Coffee, 1 Duke's Road, London WC1H 9PJ near Euston station from 6pm. There will someone there to direct you to the nearby venue until 7pm.

Both the cafe and the venue are fully accessible for disabled attendees.

Am here! Only trouble so far was the lift which kept taking us to the wrong floor. Just waiting for speakers to start.

heresyandwitchcraft · 13/06/2018 19:23

Livestream is working for me!

Sheila Jeffries talking about cross dressers driving the gender identity rights movement. Very interesting

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 13/06/2018 20:14

Loving Sheila Jeffries

also love Anne and Nicole

BeyondSceptical · 13/06/2018 20:23

Me too, assigned.
They are some serious arsekicking women.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 13/06/2018 20:34

she has gone off piste

LangCleg · 13/06/2018 20:48

Lisa M is hilarious!

GenderApostate · 13/06/2018 20:51

I want to hear more about the tantrum 😆 I do hope somebody filmed it and it ends up on the interweb for posterity.

speakingwoman · 13/06/2018 21:03

posie it does not surprise me you are a Hitchens fan!

I like the variety of speakers on the panel.

theaveragewife · 13/06/2018 21:47

Yes I want to hear more on the tantrum too - was it at the beginning of the filming?

BeyondSceptical · 13/06/2018 21:59

Whoever she was, she was not a fan of Sheila!

Typeractive · 13/06/2018 22:07

I actually found the debate about sexual orientation (which is what the lone protestor was objecting to so very loudly) really interesting. And what Shelagh was saying about paedophiles rallying round the concept... really quite chilling.

Typeractive · 13/06/2018 22:08

Oops... meant 'Sheila'.

pombear · 13/06/2018 23:15

Thank you Venice for providing a livestream, and being a key organiser.

You were all great. Those who spoke, those who organised, those who attended.

You help to inspire us to keep going in the varied things we're all doing.

But a special shout out to Lisa M, who it was fantastic to see, after reading so much of her twitter feed, in the flesh, on the fly, nail the debate, rationally, passionately.

You all make me inspired, and proud to be a female (by biology :-) )

speakingwoman · 13/06/2018 23:17

Thanks for live stream v interesting.

pombear · 13/06/2018 23:23

And forgot another shout out to Magdalen :- your shouter from the audience, as always, just made your argument, your rationality, your calmness in the face of mantrums.

They do not seem to realise that their actions every time expose the issue.

bananaistheanswer · 13/06/2018 23:31

What happened to the video? I got as far as the end of Nicole's speech then it cut out & now the page is not even loading?

Battleax · 13/06/2018 23:51

Is the video available anywhere?

2rebecca · 13/06/2018 23:55

It's on the facebook link at the moment

Aftershock15 · 14/06/2018 00:13

@IAmNotInvisible I was in the same lift - basement twice/second floor/finally made it!

Great evening of talks, but missed the pub as also had unreliable trains and wanted to be sure I could get home. Still I’m inspired to actually try and do something.

Battleax · 14/06/2018 00:48

Thanks 2rebecca.

GeordieTerf · 14/06/2018 01:40

Wow! What a great night!

I will post a thorough breakdown tomorrow, but for right now, let me say this:

  1. The protestor was not a TRA. They were GC, but they disagreed with some of what SJ said about sexual orientation.
  1. The event was very well-organized and professional.
  1. They were so many famous TERFs there! I was fan-girling all night!
bananaistheanswer · 14/06/2018 01:49

Just finished watching to the end - some very interesting details there, I might just DM Venice about a couple of things.

Brilliant meeting. Shiela Jeffries is awesome.
