Join Sheila Jeffreys, Nicole Jones and Anne Ruzylo for the We Need To Talk event Inconvenient Women on Wednesday 13th June 7-10pm in London.

Lesbian feminists Sheila Jeffreys and Nicole Jones discuss the implications of transgender rights activism for women and children.

Sheila Jeffreys, Professorial Fellow at the University of Melbourne, will analyse the Yogyakarta Principles, the foundations of the promotion of gender identity in international law.

Nicole Jones is an art sudent student and activist and will discuss how these laws will affect us. Former Labour Women's Officer and trade unionist, Anne Ruzylo, will chair the meeting.

This meeting will be filmed by TV broadcasters and live streamed.

Due to violent opposition to these meetings from transactivists we cannot disclose the venue details.

Meeting point is Costa Coffee, 1 Duke's Road, London WC1H 9PJ near Euston station from 6pm. There will someone there to direct you to the nearby venue until 7pm.

Both the cafe and the venue are fully accessible for disabled attendees.

@drradfem

Thanks! I can handle them with a smile and a nod. But I just wanted to be sure that we are prepared in case things turn bad.

drradfem · 06/06/2018 22:25

This will be the 7th gender talk I've organised and 5 have had demos, plus the demos at the court houses.

She Wolf and friends assaulted Maria at our very first meeting and I think the whole community realises that was a disastrous own goal. There hasn't been any violence since then.

The Bristol lot were unpleasant and they caught us unaware an hour before the meeting started and it was chaotic with the police but there was no violence.

The worst thing the transactivists do is hassle the venues in to trying to cancel on us. On the actual day they're usually just quite amusing with their masks and crazy slogans. I'm not scared of them at all, especially the London ones that I've met several times.

The TV companies love to film them but I'd much rather they weren't there and we could just get on with our meeting. If there is any violence there will be arrests and it will be broadcast around the world. It's unlikely IMO.

Still, I understand that not everyone has these experiences and would not enjoy the drama and media circus, and that's what the live stream is for, to watch from the safety of your own home.

I'm really looking forward to it. We've sold loads of tickets already and the speeches and discussion will be excellent. Especially looking forward to the pub afterwards Glitterball

I have my ticket and received a reminder email today. But I'm wondering, must I print the ticket or will it be OK simply to show the electronic version?

drradfem · 12/06/2018 01:28

If you can print it out, that'd be better. At the Bristol event the police wanted to see tickets

Will you please livestream on Youtube? PP's latest event was done this way and a TON of people watched it.

GeordieTerf · 12/06/2018 18:02

@drradfem

You've included your phone number in your most recent email? Did you mean to do that?

drradfem · 12/06/2018 19:08

Yes I'm happy for my phone number to be public but thanks for your concern

My first ever meeting, coming along on my own and very nervous!

drradfem · 12/06/2018 23:21

Don't be nervous! These are the friendliest and most sisterly events I've ever attended, you'll have a great time.

Don't be nervous Terfnserf - I went to Basingstoke on my own and had a fantastic evening.

I'm coming on my own tomorrow so might see you there in the crowd.

LondonPainter · 13/06/2018 06:47

I’m coming on my own too! First time I’ve been able to make one of these events and looking forward to it Smile

bigwhitecat · 13/06/2018 11:18

See you there Terfnserf! It'll be fun, don't worry Grin

Lefthanddown · 13/06/2018 15:58

I've booked my ticket, whether I'll get there or not is a different matter, given the train delays/cancellations so far. Bang goes any sightseeing beforehand

drradfem · 13/06/2018 16:35

Oooo I'm getting excited

Any updates on potential protests? Sad

IAmNotInvisible · 13/06/2018 17:58

First post. Have been lurking without comment for months but getting more and more annoyed at being told Women need to shut and put up - a favourite put down from my father.

So, I have my ticket and am en route. Feeling nervous beyond belief.

Littlegreenegg · 13/06/2018 18:01

Is it still being filmed/streamed?

Melamin · 13/06/2018 18:03

Do enjoy Smile

I hope to watch the live feed (if I can get a go of the I-pad - doesn't work on my computer - browser wrong or something [confusd] )

RustyParker · 13/06/2018 18:43

Will the live stream be via the fb page?
