Equality Act to be targeted

Hi, just off to make dinner but would love to hear your thoughts on how quickly or if the Equality Act will be targeted by transactivists IF they win on Self ID.

At the moment they claim it won't be, but the movement has proved itself to be untrustworthy. When women give a little way, they have been completely stomped and big-footed.

My view is that if TRA get self ID, the Equality Act will be targeted as 'outdated' within six months.

They already are. The Trans grouo Be.North have been saying for months that they want the single Sex exemptions removed 😡

Pratchet · 04/06/2018 18:37

Oh really? I didn't realise. So they'll probably try to get self ID AND the Equality Act amended at the same time.

Does this mean that the only woman-only spaces will be labour wards?

UpstartCrow · 04/06/2018 18:43

I forget where I read it, but the EA is supposed to be protected and stay in force for a specific length of time.
TRA's can't change the Act so they will try to change the definitions the Act uses.

''Sections 104-105 of the Act extends until 2030 the exemption from sex discrimination law which allows political parties to create all women or all men candidate short-lists.''
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equality_Act_2010

As can be seen from what's happening with the Jo Cox program, its been made nonsensical.

Pratchet · 04/06/2018 18:43

They aren't woman only tho. Apparently the bar will be set high for excluding TW anyway. Eg if a woman is in a refuge and her trans partner turns up, he can be refused entry. Wtf kind of protection is that.

Pregnant people, please, not women. Don't you know men can get pregnant too?

/sarcasm.

Pratchet · 04/06/2018 18:44

I can't believe it has to be in place for a set time

This is really scary. We can’t lose the one legal mechanism to keep legally watertight single-sex spaces etc. I’m going to ask my MP to make maintaining the EA a part of their response of (I hope) rejecting legal gender self ID.

Pratchet · 04/06/2018 19:36

The govt head of equalities is a youngish male drink of water who wouldn't know a woman's right if it jumped out of his Eton mess.

Err, they aren't though are they? The dad's are there to support their partners, in labour, and visiting afterwards.
And a lot of doctors are male too.

Terfulike · 04/06/2018 19:52

Ok we're fucked then

ChattyLion · 04/06/2018 19:55

There won’t be any single sex spaces, services, awards, opportunities, sporting or educational opportunities, jobs, educational systems, medical care, research or statistics. Biological sex will be meaningless. I don’t know if we’ll even be able to talk about sex difference if we lose EA. Someone will decide it’s all hate speech..Sad

Pratchet · 04/06/2018 19:56

Tout foutu

That'll piss the TIM's off. I do see them trying though, anything to cause society to fracture seems to be their aim.

Ereshkigal · 04/06/2018 23:52

This was also the subject of my thread about Labour.

We need to talk about Labour

Stonewall also have made several pledges to achieve reform of the Equality Act. In Miller's Trans Inquiry they gave a statement in which they advocated for the removal of the EA exemptions.

HotRocker · 04/06/2018 23:59

Eresh, do you have a link to the Stonewall thing?

Ereshkigal · 04/06/2018 23:59

Hang on a sec.

Writersblock2 · 05/06/2018 00:04

It could very well happen. We won’t exist in any meaningful way in public life. We will therefore do what many women did before us (and indeed do in many countries today) - we meet in private and find new ways to fight.

Ereshkigal · 05/06/2018 00:05

A review of the Equality Act 2010 to include ‘gender identity’ rather than ‘gender reassignment’ as a protected characteristic and to remove exemptions, such as access to single-sex spaces

www.stonewall.org.uk/women-and-equalities-select-committee-inquiry-transgender-equality

Maryz · 05/06/2018 00:08

If transwomen are women the equalities act is worthless anyway.

That's why there is so much pressure to accept the TWAW narrative - once society accepts that (to be nice, obvs) then the EA may as well cease to exist. No need to reform it or get rid of it, all-women spaces will legally include TW. Single sex exemptions for women will include TW. Game over. Full fucking stop.

UpstartCrow · 05/06/2018 00:11

If they cant change the Act itself, they will take the Labour Party route and change conditions around the Act to undermine it instead.
There are still people who deny this is a male rights movement. But women have never had that much power, and this has very clearly got nothing to do with equality.

VanGoghsDog · 05/06/2018 00:15

If TIMs can get on all women shortlists, as protected by the EA, we're actually better off without it in that regard - put them back in the melting pit, up against men, instead of walking all over women.

And, while the EA has a limit, it's a max, not a min, and no parliament can bind a successor, so it can always be repealed.
