Trans activist ‘bullies’ stop donations for schoolchildren

spontaneousgiventime · 03/06/2018 01:12

A feminist group concerned about the social pressure placed on children to become transgender has had its fundraising stopped after a “bullying” campaign by trans activists.

Transgender Trend said it was considering taking legal action against activists for claiming that a resource pack that it publishes for schools was “transphobic”, included “hate speech” and was “a modern edition of Mein Kampf”.

Article in the Sunday Times by Andrew Gilligan.

Great article & comments. The comment by 'silver lady' really nails this -

Transgender groups undermine safeguarding in schools, teaching that adults can keep children's disclosures confidential (they can't). They teach that a teenager self identifying as the opposite sex MUST be given access to changing rooms etc where children are undressing. They will not accept that a third space for the child allows all children the right to privacy, dignity and safety despite sex segregated spaces being legal. They state that puberty blocking drugs are harmless for children and the effects reversible (there's been no research on their use in children so we don't know).
Ironically, this leaves gender non conforming children in the greatest danger. If these children are to be treated as 'different' with teachers (and parents) no longer allowed to question their safety or their psychological / emotional wellbeing as they would with any other child, then these kids are no longer protected. Why any groups are being allowed to undermine safeguarding for children in this way beggars belief.

@Opheliah I think both stonewall uk & mermaids have said some 'actionable' things about the school pack (allegedly). They're both well funded organisations...

I personally think a lot of people are firing out outrageous unsubstantiated claims about a lot of things because they believe no one has the funds to take action. I'd love to see someone actually challenge this nonsense because the exaggerated hyperbole that follows anything that challenges the transcult is astounding & should be curtailed IMO.

I started to fill out a survey for someone looking to do research in educational stresses for young children and question 3 was ' Does your child identify as male, female, prefer not to say' This was someone with a PhD who was a teacher. No wonder kids are confused.

I went no further.

CorbynTrouserPress · 03/06/2018 09:10

If you haven't read it can I suggest a little experiment? Read it and then see which of the statements below best describes the pack. Maybe you'll find your conclusion a useful, integrity measuring stick going forwards Smile.

From the article:
Susie Green, chief executive of the Mermaids charity, said the guidance contained “hysterical and unsubstantiated claims made to damage the rights of transgender young people”.

Stephanie Davies-Arai, of Transgender Trend, said the pack was measured, careful and evidence-based and advocated the “watchful waiting” approach pursued by the leading NHS clinicians in this field.

lemonjello wise words

Waddlelikeapenguin · 03/06/2018 12:19

PlectrumElectrum Silverlady has been posting excellent comments on times gender/trans articles - I assume she is here somewhere Smile
is it just me that reads the all the comments to find the 'oooh bet they're from MN' ones?

Lemonjello · 03/06/2018 12:25

Re Susie Green and Mermaids, I think there should be safeguards in place that recognise this dynamic and prevent people with such powerful vested interests having so much sway over policy concerning children.

And however much harm mermaids does, my heart still squeezes when I imagine susie green waking up at 3am desperately trying not to think about what if, and pushing that away by doubling down on the mermaids agenda. Thats why for her, “castration” simply must be hate speech. The alternative is just too terrible for her.

Lemonjello · 03/06/2018 12:26

And why the fairly balanced and objective TT guidelines are “hysterical”

One of the cores of feminism has been that women, not men, decide what is best for women. So why isn't it equally the case that trans groups are best placed to decide what is best for trans children?

Seriously? Trans groups rather than ohhhh I don't know parents? Or healthcare professionals? Specialists working with children?

No. Just trans groups of random trans people.

FFS.

There's an interesting recent interview with Stephanie Davies Arai about Transgender Trend:

I thought Susie Green must be full of doubt that what she did was right, but then I saw talking about what she did here:

Watch from 38:58, she actually laughs.

Peaceloving · 03/06/2018 14:35

Transkids don't exist. It is a fabrication of xxi century

spontaneousgiventime · 03/06/2018 14:44

Articles by Andrew Gilligan are usually very good, this one is no different. Although the story is well known, the Times publishing is a whole new audience.

IMO trans adults can chose what happens to themselves, preferably with some degree of gatekeeping from medical professionals though so that they can make sure that the huge decision is right for them.

But 'transkids'? I actually think Lupron and such should be illegal for aesthetic reasons, which is basically the only reason to give them to 'transkids' Puberty is a shitty time for most kids, this is not unique to children who think they are transgender. I know I would have taken blockers with both hands and lied about anything to avoid puberty. I also hold the (apparently controversial) opinion that 'puberty blockers' could block vital brain development, and this is likely to be why near ALL kids put on them go onto cross sex hormones, as their brains are basically in limbo and not doing the developing necessary to come to terms with yourself.

That was actually the tweet that got me interviewed from the police. But I still hold the same opinion now.

FoxOnSecurity · 03/06/2018 15:20

Legal action? That's made me laugh, especially seeing most complaints would have been made anonymously. It would get laughed out in the first stages.

TransplantsArePlants · 03/06/2018 15:21

So good to know the girl doesn't know the technical terminology for what they did...

Jesus Christ

Nana and SG chortling about there "not being enough tissue"

And to justify it all, it's not good enough to be a bog-standard young woman; this one has to be a Beauty Queen.

TRA throwing a wobbly and reporting this article to IPSO.

OldCrone that clip is awful.

I guess my position is that if my child had attempted suicide 7 times I can’t confidently say that I would have done anything differently to Susie Green.

However, there are a whole host of things I would have done (and am doing) differently before anything ever gets to that stage.

From watching Susie Greens Ted talk, her child had been exposed to many damaging ideas before secondary school.

Bring a boy and liking girls toys is a big problem.

Dad gets very cross when you play with girls toys.

Sometimes your favourite things will be taken away from you because they are not appropriate for a boy to play with.

Playing with girls toys makes your mum and dad fight until they split up.

It means you are taken to the doctor because something is wrong with you.

It is possible to have an operation to become a real girl when you are a grown up (this was spoken about from age 6)

You are allowed to wear girls clothes and play with girls toys but only in private and where no-one knows you because it’s something that boys shouldn’t do.

You also change your name and use female pronouns when you play with girls toys.

It is possible to be a girl trapped in a boys body.

Dad stops being cross when he realises you are really a girl.

One of the cores of feminism has been that women, not men, decide what is best for women. So why isn't it equally the case that trans groups are best placed to decide what is best for trans children?

Because women are adults and children are not.

Because trans groups are lobby groups with their own agenda and often limited viewpoint/expertise.

Because some of the trans groups are truly loopy. See Action for Trans Health which has a manifesto that includes wanting to free all trans prisoners and the freedom to do experimental medicine on each other.

Why the fuck do you think these people should be making decisions about and providing advice to children just because they happen to call themselves 'trans groups'?

Ereshkigal · 03/06/2018 21:39

Andrew is brilliant at responding to TRAs. He majestically dealt with "Owl" when they tried to trash FPFW and his Times article about prisons.
