Spy cops abusing women

I started a new thread about the Lush spy cops issue because I really wanted to talk about the problem of undercover police officers abusing women - rather than the ethics of Lush exploiting this issue in a marketing campaign. Here is more info.

The security services have been spying on various left wing/alternative political organisations singe 1968. One method of gaining access and acceptance within spied on groups was for undercover officers to build relationships with women already in the groups. Between 1985 and 2010 there are only three or four years when an undercover officer was not in a taxpayer- funded relationship with a woman campaigner. These women have never been convicted of any crime. Some of these officers had wives and children, while also developing sexual relationships with campaigners. One undercover police officer even had a child with one of the campaigners.

There's a petition trying to get Savid Javid to improve the public inquiry because they're just trying to cover everything up and derail tit (surprise surprise!)

Done.

Where they say extend the inquiry to Scotland, does anyone know if Wales is already included?

Waddlelikeapenguin · 02/06/2018 14:07

Thanks
I have a knee jerk FO reaction to any mention of lush so this was helpful :-)

DJLippy · 02/06/2018 14:34

Does anyone on mumsnet have any more info on this? I remember when this story broke but now when I try to google all I get is articles about Lush Confused

I know a bit more about it, do you follow SpyCops or Police Spies Out Of Lives on FB? They post really frequent updates and have been really tirelessly campaigning for justice.

QueenOfQuacks · 02/06/2018 14:43

There have been threads on here before, I'll try and find them (not as in don't start another, more discussion is great! Just for some background and contributions from posters who may not be around now).

Helen Steel is one of the women affected and has also been under attack from TRAs recently. She spoke at I think it was the Cambridge WNNT or WPUK meeting but can't remember offhand which. I know the video of her talk is online though and well worth a listen

It's a shame dittany's posts on the one I started have gone as I remember them being very good!

TerfTerfTerf · 02/06/2018 14:50

Helen Steel spoke at Cambridge WPUK and was brilliant (but it wasn't about SpyCops). She is generally an inspiring woman, very calm, very grown up and very intelligent. Writes and speaks eloquently. I was inspired to do more research into her spycop campaign and am appalled by what I've read. But it is a small number of police and the Lush campaign is outrageous in that its making all police look like villains. This is no way to treat the public sector. But Lush isn't exactly known for its subtlety is it? Grin

DJLippy · 02/06/2018 14:51

Cheers @Queen.

What's happened to Dittany's posts, has she left MN and deleted all her posts?

QueenOfQuacks · 02/06/2018 14:53

Yeah years ago.

DJLippy · 02/06/2018 15:07

Lush are idiots. They've just alienated 80% of the population. Well done guys...

How?

Weezol · 02/06/2018 15:16

This is the book put together with The Guardian which is the starting point in the eventual enquiry.

Sam this is documented fact. Several of the police officers have given interviews admitting what they did. Compensation has been paid to the women.

They weren't just followed, their lives and bodies were infiltrated by employees of the state.

Bob Lambert had a relationship with a woman who wasn't even politically active herself. She just had a couple of friends who were.

Terfulike · 04/06/2018 06:10

I don't know who you are but you are expressing opinions about facts - documented in a court of law and via recorded interviews given by both perpetrators and victims. We take facts pretty seriously here. We are sceptical of people who have "feelings" which go against documented and verifiable facts.
