There have been a few threads about the need for GC Feminists to have this.
how does it work/who provides it/is there a dummies version online?

(can I do it too?).

For instance...
www.onroadmedia.org.uk/events/trans-engaging-media-training-courses/

I have no objection to this organisation but it does show there is a need.

There's no need for trans media training lol. They've been at it since 2013 and got all major media organisations to adopt self ID.

Spartacunt · 31/05/2018 12:15

Media training is usually done by ex journalists. They will help you with on-screen and off- screen interviews, looking at the basics (body language, how you appear to others, relaxation and breathing techniques for example) and how to get your message across by focusing on your key messages; how to deal with difficult questions and so on. You should be able to cover most bases in a half day session and many will do follow up by Skype or phone to prep for a specific interview.

Spartacunt · 31/05/2018 12:18

PS don't try and do it online! You need to be able to watch yourself back to learn - most trainers film you in a mock before and after interview. It's quite expensive (approx £1k a session for up to 4/5 people).

ooh I'm tempted.
I'm quite effective until something gets under my skin. wholly ineffective thereafter!

I should declare a vested interest as I have a friend who is an amazing media trainer - ex media editor of a national newspaper and TV pundit. Happy to PM his details if you'd like to chat to him.

speakingwoman · 31/05/2018 12:54

not for now sparta but thank you

No problem - I've sat through loads of media training sessions as part of my job so if you need any tips I'd be happy to help. It can be a minefield!

I would endorse all spartacunt says .... its not transgender media training that's needed, but media training and everything she says I agree with.... pricey but WOW is it worth it... just learning to crystallise your key points and then include them whatever happens is worth it....So unbiased and enabling you to get YOUR messages across better, whatever they are, via different media... but usually spoken

I work in the charity sector and we've often had pro bono media training - I would be surprised if there aren't a few feminist trainers out there who might do a free session for high-profile speakers int he public eye....

speakingwoman · 02/06/2018 10:56

That would be good.

It'd be great to crowd fund for a media training session for people who are regularly asked to appear on tv and radio. We need it!

JosBoys · 02/06/2018 11:32

I don't think another crowd funder would be wise tbh. There are already questions circulating around Twitter about Posie's crowdfunder and it would be easy for this all to be misrepresented as a money-spinner rather than a campaign.
I'm sure if feelers were put out across all the different feminist networks then someone would provide media training pro bono.

drradfem · 02/06/2018 14:25

Yeah good point re crowdfunder. I've avoided doing any crowdfunding for this reason - money tarnishes everything

Pratchet · 02/06/2018 14:29

Drrad: you have good technique - you should train others

drradfem · 02/06/2018 15:23

Oh no, I have a lot to learn! Some people are better communicators than other, some have more knowledge... but we can all benefit from training
