Where the fuck has the Posie thread gone and why??

So posie has views which have got her no platformed by WPUK.

and now MN will not let us discuss her no platforming???

WTF is happening?? How scary is this shit?

The reason I can see given is that the WPUK decision was not to do with MN.

99% of threads are about people/organsitions/decisions not to do with MN. That explanation makes no sense.

Did Posie ask for it to go?

I thought she was getting mostly support on there.

This does all smack of: I like this woman so anything she says is ok.

Can we at least recognise that it was poor decision to try to discuss such a nuanced topic through the medium of Twitter and make such a poorly worded statement?

Whether or not she meant it that way it came across as ignorant at the very least and racists at worst.

There has to be room for dissenting voices in debate but there also need to be room for people to acknowledge when they’ve said something that crosses a line. Posie crosses the line from debate into racism.

There is no need to divide into factions over this. It was a mistake, let’s recognise that and move the hell away from the topic before it swallows us all in whataboutery and in fighting.

The important thing is to stay focused on self id.

RatRolyPoly · 31/05/2018 13:48

I also don't like the insinuation on this thread and on other groups that if we don't agree with what Posie has said we are not proper feminists.

Oh, you'll get used to this one. Some people proclaim that they are in possession of the one true feminism.

Elendon · 31/05/2018 13:54

Miss Susan The important thing is to stay focused on self id but I've no idea what staying focused on this entails. Can you give guidance on this focus?

UpUrm Could you tell me what 'the cause' is?

the cause is what I care about.

I thought we were all united in wanting the same thing. What thing is this you write of?

Elendon · 31/05/2018 13:55

Some people proclaim that they are in possession of the one true feminism.

Can you provide evidence for that Rat ?

Ereshkigal · 31/05/2018 13:57

It's not as if self proclaimed "intersectional" liberal feminists ever say that of course.

Elendon · 31/05/2018 13:58

Can I ask you MissSusan Are you staying focused on Self Id?

I'm doubting your focus on this and seriously questioning why I even asked you to give me guidance on this focus you so earnestly speak of.

Erish, what like "if your feminism doesn't include transwomen it's not something something"

Halo
RatRolyPoly · 31/05/2018 14:05

Can you provide evidence for that Rat ?

I can, but it doesn't matter; I actually meant to delete that post (is was more for my own amusement) but hit post by mistake!

HarryLovesDraco · 31/05/2018 14:08

I don't think it was a poor decision for posie to express her views on Twitter. I don't think she shouldn't have done it. But I also think that organisations have the right to distance themselves from posie for expressing those views.

RatRolyPoly · 31/05/2018 14:08

Erish, what like "if your feminism doesn't include transwomen it's not something something"

Well yes, some ideas are patently more valid than others in the name of feminism, but I don't think it does feminism a lot of good making it personal to the woman in possession of those ideas. Feminism is largely about the intent after all; who's to say somebody doesn't think those things precisely because they believe they are what is best for women and girls. Not me. Obviously I press people to show me why they think what they think is best in the name of feminism, but we all do that here I would say. It's a good thing!

Anyway, like I said, it was an accidental post.

LangCleg · 31/05/2018 14:10

I also don't like the insinuation on this thread and on other groups that if we don't agree with what Posie has said we are not proper feminists.

Eh? Why are you addressing this to me? When I just, a few posts before, said:

Gender critical feminism isn't some kind of hierarchy with a central authority. You don't have to pass a purity exam to join. I welcome all women to it - and when they say things I don't like, I will say so.

MissSusanSays · 31/05/2018 14:18

Elendon

Almost got me there. Wibble.

Ereshkigal · 31/05/2018 14:18

Well yes, some ideas are patently more valid than others in the name of feminism

Yes, like centring females rather than males.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 31/05/2018 14:22

Can't we just ban twitter?

Elendon · 31/05/2018 14:23

You need to take the pencils out of your nostrils MissSusan

It's not a cunning plan.

SuperDandy · 31/05/2018 14:25

Elendon, is code for something?

You've used it a lot on the end of posts to people you are disagreeing with. I've been reading it is an expression of distaste or disdain for the poster you're replying to, but then I wondered if it wasn't meant that way at all.

Elendon · 31/05/2018 14:26

Leave Twitter to be the echo chamber is already is. One day soon it will morph into MySpace. I still feel sorry for Tom though.

Elendon · 31/05/2018 14:28

Only to one. I have a recognised phobia for Rats.

NotTerfNorCis · 31/05/2018 14:44

some ideas are patently more valid than others in the name of feminism

True, some ideas are toxic to feminism, like stretching the concept of 'women' to include men.

RatRolyPoly · 31/05/2018 14:47

And the forced sterilisation of born females is... okay?

Pratchet · 31/05/2018 14:52

Who approves of that, Rat?

RatRolyPoly · 31/05/2018 14:54

Hopefully no-one Pratchet, although it has certainly been covered in this thread whether or not PP was advocating for it with her Tweet.

Bowlofbabelfish · 31/05/2018 14:55

No. It’s not ever Ok in my opinion. I agree that there are some pretty big ethical issues around trans sex hormones and pregnancy and the idea of telling a baby it has no mother when it does is disturbing to me. But forced sterilisation is a line I won’t cross.

Hope small rat is ok (spent the morning at A&E with the eldest myself...sigh.)
