Mr Adamson sees as the logical next step on from the legal recognition of a child's transition, rather than a piecemeal erosion of child protection.

He is pushing this likely not because he wants this policy, but he has political savvy to realise that any legislation here will likely need to occupy the middle ground to be acceptable to the government. It’s actually quite a shrewd move. Children should definitely be permitted to change sex legally (or schools be permitted to disregard birth certificates altogether which they won’t due to immigration concerns) but it should be after existing requirements in this area have been met.
