In particular this video, where the Labour Party suggest that changes to the GRA are just the start, they're going after the EA too and if you have any reservations you're like an 80s homophobe.

Popchyk that's disgusting, the Dawn Butler-Brent jolly.

YY.

Some really good ideas there Chatty.

I've found an article in the Sunday times and one in the Evening standard which mention Andrew Murray and self ID. Will link both later.

Yep, I expect it would be hard to remain impartial in Dawn Butler's position.

You have someone advising her who has a particular agenda. And who is paying for her "fact finding" trips. And as Guido Fawkes stated, Butler did not mention it in her social media at all despite it lasting 9 days. Dawn Butler tweets all the time. And if it was genuinely work then you'd expect her to tweet about it. As well as be open about who paid for the trip. Neither of these two things happened.

I wonder how many trips of hers are paid for by women's groups.

The cynic in me also wonders how exactly Maria Miller's enthusiasm for self-ID was generated.

Pratchet · 30/05/2018 14:46

#followthemoney

Ereshkigal · 30/05/2018 16:45

I've wondered that for a while, yes.

And I don't think Dawn Butler is the brightest of MPs either, I'm afraid.

Ereshkigal · 30/05/2018 17:26

I entirely agree.

I find Stella Creasy more of a worry (in GC terms) because she is actually an adept politician. Very good at working parliamentary procedures and getting alliances going. Dawn Butler is more likely to dig a hole, then keep digging.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 30/05/2018 18:10

Stella Creasy is such a disappointment.

Pratchet · 30/05/2018 18:11

She's a fan of George Soros

Crazy3 · 30/05/2018 18:23

I think this is the latest women’s struggle. We all know how hard won women’s safe spaces have been. They are precious and it would be a crime to give away ground now. I have sympathy for people who identify as women, but I would not be happy sharing a safe space eg a refuge, hospital bay, open changing room, prison cell with a person who was not physically of the same gender as me. I don’t think that is old fashioned, and I do not think that makes me in any way less tolerant. That community now needs to carve out its own safe spaces in what ever way they can and force change and space for themselves, I wish them all the best with that.

Floisme · 30/05/2018 18:46

On the one hand my head tells me it's naive to be disappointed in politicians for being, well political. But then my heart says, if you go into politics but never put your head over the parapet, what exactly is the point of you?

It's why I think the best hope is with one of the old guard. Being close to the end of your career can be very liberating - although it seems to be Tory MPs who enjoy it the most.

Interesting about trade union divisions. I fear the public sector ones may have already swallowed the line but I'd love to be proved wrong.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 31/05/2018 01:34

The thing is, Labour does seem to be speaking with a unified voice on this at the moment - which, given the viciousness of their factionalism, is unusual.

Yes exactly - there is obviously a gag order in place - the misogyny is evident in what they don't say and don't do Self-id. The fact they choose to say and do nothing, either collectively or individually, is bystander bullying and that is an active harmful act- ie do nothing - especially concerning 50% of the voting population - it doesn't make sense

As to Corbyn, there's a name for men who surround themselves with women and men who look the part but will never stand their corner or act independently against him - so in that respect these are women being used- the only question is consciously or not. Cult Corbyn is a big thing as attested to his survival this long despite himself

Crazy3 · 31/05/2018 11:54

I can’t beleieve that we have gotten to a place where women have to reclaim their name as Women. It’s absolutely mental. I feel the need to wear a t shirt with Woman emblazoned across it.

Ereshkigal · 31/05/2018 15:00

Going back a little bit, these are the articles about Andrew Murray and the disagreement over trans issues:

Andrew Gilligan:

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/labour-left-splits-over-trans-rights-n9x0b6p2z

James Kirkup:

www.standard.co.uk/comment/comment/labour-s-next-civil-war-is-a-battle-over-what-it-means-to-be-a-woman-a3793541.html

And this is mentioned by Guido Fawkes:

order-order.com/2018/03/20/now-owen-trans-rights-fight-trade-unionists-top-corbyn-aide/

Where he references the Guardian article OJ wrote about AWS and views on MN.

LangCleg · 31/05/2018 15:38

Thanks, Eresh. It was the Kirkup article I'd remembered. He's really got internal Labour politicking down pat.

daddypigsnoexpert · 03/06/2018 23:05

most people want to get up, go to work and feel like they have provided for their family. Don't matter who your family is, that's the point, humans work in groups, we are tribal, we are british, we are polski etc, we all want a group to belong to

Crazy3 · 04/06/2018 22:16

I think we just hang on to our identity tooth and nail- I’m not changing what I call myself and what I’ve always been called since time began to please someone who wants to appropriate my identity. I’m ignoring it all as nonsense. I’m a woman and my gender is female and anybody who doesn’t like it will just have to lump it.

Popchyk · 08/06/2018 23:34

Dawn Butler is now up for the Ally Award at Diva Magazine.

twitter.com/DawnButlerBrent/status/1005204617834172416

"So honoured to be nominated for doing something I'm so proud of. LGBT+ rights are everyone's rights so let's fight together for true equality."

What is DIVA magazine you ask? Well it claims to be Europe's biggest magazine for lesbian and bisexual people. Linda Riley is the publisher of Diva Magazine and is also a director of GLAAD.

Here's the thing...

Linda Riley was appointed as Lead Advisor to Dawn Butler's LGBT+ diversity board in November 2017.

www.divamag.co.uk/Diva-Magazine/News/DIVA-Publisher-Linda-Riley-announced-as-lead-on-Dawn-Butlers-brand-new-LGBT-diversity-board/

So Dawn appoints Linda as a lead advisor and then Linda shells out for the £14K trip. Linda then sticks Dawn up for an award. Dawn then gushes about the award on Twitter. And Dawn somehow doesn't mention the £14K trip or the fact that the award was created by her own lead advisor.

Wanderabout · 08/06/2018 23:47

The cynic in me also wonders how exactly Maria Miller's enthusiasm for self-ID was generated.

She was Pink News politician of the year wasn't she? Presumably at some point MPs will realise that allying with a publication that is happy to openly advocate for incest is politically unwise as well as just generally a bad idea.

GibbertyFlibbert · 09/06/2018 00:00

"I’m not changing what I call myself and what I’ve always been called since time began to please someone who wants to appropriate my identity. I’m ignoring it all as nonsense. I’m a woman and my gender is female and anybody who doesn’t like it will just have to lump it." Crazy3

Glad to see you have embraced Self-ID. Having done so, I hope you won't deny others doing the same.

Pratchet · 09/06/2018 00:25

Why is a rape crisis centre odious?

Popchyk · 09/06/2018 09:49

Oh, guess what?

Dawn won the award last night. Who could ever have predicted that?

And Jeremy Corbyn just happened to be on hand to present her with the award.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 09/06/2018 09:52

Well Labour are shouting their distain towards women by their behaviour - it needs another party to step up now as they seem to be a spent force - at least for truth
