From that independent article:

“Isn’t it time men ‘self-identify’ as women and challenge ‘female only’ spaces?” said Matt O’Connor, founder of Fathers4Justice. “What if separated dads turn up at family courts self-identifying as mothers? The focus on minority rights, whilst denying fathers equal parenting rights, is wrong. F4J are planning #GirlFriday events at female only spaces this summer to challenge the gender apartheid practised by Mumsnet.”

Now that will be interesting...

Wonderful blog post.

This is the best of British civil protest - polite, measured, sense of humour, engaging those around you politely and calmly. I’m sure you made a lot of men more aware and you hurt no one, obstructed no one and were polite to the police.

And it’s interesting to see how men value those single sex spaces too isn’t it? They should have a right to them for dignity and privacy, and the different atmosphere a single sex space brings. Just as women need theirs for dignity, privacy and the extremely important aspect of safety. We lose a lot if we lose single sex spaces.

I do also hope Sgt. Macefield (who handled this whole thing extremely well) will be able to look at the transgender training with a more critical eye as well.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 30/05/2018 09:02

Brilliant post from Lily Maynard

We should send Sgt. Macefield a guide to the equality act

Ereshkigal · 30/05/2018 09:03

Anyone know what trans org is giving the training to the police, or gave it to Hampstead ponds?

SwearyG · 30/05/2018 09:13

I asked and they didn’t know, just said LGBT at me a lot.

That there is even trans training is weird, no? We had diversity training which covered everything every year when I was a civil servant, all the protected characteristics were done together on one day. Why is gender reassignment elevated beyond other protected characteristics?

Maybe we should ask when the City of London police had their sexuality training, or religious training, or fucking woman training?

Ereshkigal · 30/05/2018 09:17

Yes I was thinking exactly that. I think maybe we need to try to set up a group to work on outreach feminist training to respect women's rights and consent.

Ereshkigal · 30/05/2018 09:20

And yes to having training which covers the EA in one go. We had an hour on it of a day long session then had to do a brief online assessment which covered all the 9 characteristics. This is just throwing yet more money at all these shitty organisations so they can indoctrinate people, because they have made organisations feel like they need to be taken more seriously and pandered to than other protected groups. It's such a cash cow.

Jane Fae never brings a real argument to these things. Just long sighs, long winded patronising (dare I call this mansplaining? It is what it is!), and long diversions from the topic. All in Fae's ridiculous and skin crawlingly offensive attempt at ladyvoice.

Fae's whole tactic is to try and confuse listeners out of listening or forming an opinion, and to use misogyny as a tool to discredit women on the opposing side - his whole schtick screams of "calm down dear, don't interrupt when the men are speaking dear, don't worry your little head about it dear".

JoanSummers · 30/05/2018 10:23

Oops I let a pronoun slip there. Some people just make it impossible to politely pretend that we can't see and hear what we are actually seeing and hearing.

Reposting my earlier post without the pronoun slip in case it gets reported by one of the gutless spies that hangs around here looking for reasons to squeal to teacher.

ToeToToe · 30/05/2018 10:38

[pronoun redacted] whole schtick screams of "calm down dear, don't interrupt when the men are speaking dear, don't worry your little head about it dear".

Yes exactly. With a good dose of "Amy doesn't know what she's talking about." It really is making me sick that women's safety is just being thrown out over this gender-feeling ideology.

A breathy voice, and women's clothing do not make a woman. Jane Fae is over 6 feet tall, was not born or socialised as female, and has no idea how threatened women can feel in the presence of men they don't know. Majority don't want self ID, and want to keep male and female spaces on the basis of sex, not gender ID. I think the Hampstead pools antics showed this admirably.

R0wantrees · 30/05/2018 10:44

I think when we recognise sexism, we should name it.

MunchausensLovelyHorse · 30/05/2018 10:46

That's a very well-written piece by Lily Maynard.

Thanks also for all the comments about the hijacking of hysterectomies. It's been a lot of food for thought - there's clearly no equivalence between (a) a woman who has had a hysterectomy, and (b) a man who identifies as trans.

The experience of the former is situated in her experience of female reproductive biology; the latter's isn't. Rather, the latter's experiences and challenges are situated in NOT having female reproductive biology.

R0wantrees · 30/05/2018 10:50

Maybe #hysterectomyhijack is more direct?

RebelRogue · 30/05/2018 10:52

Maybe we should encourage F4J to go ahead with their stunt. It will only succeed in showing self ID for the twattery that it is. "I am your mother!!"

JoanSummers · 30/05/2018 11:03

I agree. It is difficult to do though when calling a man a man is against the rules.

DickTERFin · 30/05/2018 11:10

Classification of the reproductive capabilities of a human has nothing to do with the individual's health or the development of their reproductive tract, except when development is so abnormal, that classification becomes impossible. And that is so rare as to make it irrelevant (the people who have the conditions are not irrelevant - only that said conditions do not impact on how we classify reproduction in humans).

It's just another merry dance in "Conflate and Confuse" land.

BlackeyedSusan · 30/05/2018 11:38

Re the yarn beards, I am thinking some of the textured yarn would be good.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 30/05/2018 12:22

Got this from a fellow GC woman. She looped knotted lengths of wool round it ot get a 'full beard. Was fab

SophoclesTheFox · 30/05/2018 12:27

am now imagining Jane Fae playing Darth Vader, heavily breathing “I am your mother, Luke” Grin

Jane is not my favourite person. But the more Jane gets wheeled out, strangely, the happier I get, because Jane does the cause no favours at all.

MunchausensLovelyHorse · 30/05/2018 12:44

@R0wantrees, I reckon #hysterectomyhijack would work well on Twitter, yes.

@DickTERFin Yep I think the TRAs who are using the fake-equivalence-hysterectomy argument are not really thinking it through. (That's being polite.)
