I read this blog about the Leeds red light district from someone who lives there. It's so illuminating. This needs a wider audience - please share on social media. This is what decriminalisation looks like.

Nailed it.

I don't disagree with the comments about the area being trashed only to be developed later. The same has happened in Manchester and Liverpool. Housing authorities are the worst for doing this. They will develop a place and sell it on under the guise of the proceeds being used to fund more housing. It's all bullshit because it's sold to private parties.

I have a massive issue with legalized prostitution. DH is Danish and it's legalized telling me how it's so much better this way. I asked him if he would be happy for either of our DDs to be prostitutes. Of course he said no. I then told him those prositutes are someone's daughter. If you're not happy for your daughter to be a prostitute then how the hell can you vote for someone else's daughter to be a prostitute. He changed his tune and since then has been active in trying to change the law. We donate to a charity that helps vulnerable women and Dh, as the diversity officer at work, has introduced specific company rules banning employees from utilizing prostitutes during company outings, working hours or while traveling with the company.

Also, every British resident deserves the right to live in a safe home in a safe area. The fact we have such depravation in the Uk is disgraceful. It's an absolute failure of our society and demonstrates the complete breakdown that has been allowed to occur.

Why it's been allowed to occur is another huge question. There has been a concerted effort to lower standards for the past 4 decades. It's like the powers that be decided to stop social mobility because it didn't suit them now they are in charge.

Good! And also how utterly depressing that such rules are needed ... Sad

Want2bSupermum · 05/06/2018 11:18

bowl It is awful it's needed but that's what happens when prostitution is legalized. There are very few women in managerial positions and in a company with 33k employees there are now 2 women in what they define to be leadership roles. DH was given the role because he asked for it and they told him he was the best person for it because of me having a career.

The Danish liberalism is anything but liberal. Personally I find it quite suffocating.

Sorry for massive link

QuarksandLeptons · 07/06/2018 21:28

Thanks Flooffloof
No mention at all of the women at centre of it all. No mention of helping them. No mention of their dire circumstances and their terrible, sad lives.
No mention at all of the ‘regulated area’ being a complete disaster

Want2bSupermum · 07/06/2018 22:41

The only mention of the women is to say they have been asked to work in the managed area under their rules. Absolutely insane.

I love the comment about how the drug abuse and prostitution isn't linked. Of course it's linked. Women don't like to have sex with strangers for money. They do it because there is no other alternative available to them.

It's an absolute disgrace this is allowed to continue. How about MN running a campaign to shut this down. It's absolute insanity that women are treated like this.

QuarksandLeptons · 08/06/2018 09:08

I think that’s a great idea Want2bSupermum
What do you think @MNHQ? How do we go about this?

mummyyessy · 10/06/2018 21:35

I wd really like @MNHQ to look at this...

ISaySteadyOn · 11/06/2018 17:18

I've written to three MPs local to my area, frank field being one of them. All are Labour MPs. As the week goes on I will write to more.

@MNHQ where are you? Someone needs to stand up for these women. What is going on needs to stop.

No woman in their right mind chooses to have sex for money. These women need help, not being exploited.

Want2bSupermum · 11/06/2018 21:26

@estherMumsnet Please note how they talk about protitutes being female. They don't refer to there being any male prostitution. It would be interesting to know if there are males being prostiuted. I would hazard a guess the answer is no.

mummyyessy · 13/06/2018 19:42

BUMP

DJLippy · 19/06/2018 12:29

OK so they're punishing the women - not the creeps who buy the rape?
Come on @MNHQ - get involved!

I don't know how they can take those reports seriously. Can't they see what is wrong with the managed area?

I will be honest if a women were solicting in my street or outside my office I may well report it to the police. An office my husband worked in in central Glasgow regularly had prostitutes and punters in the back lane. They were not happy about this because of their ssfety implications for own female staff leaving after normal office hours. So I do not blame residents who are making reports.

I can't think of any other activity which brings so much misery to so many, including people who have no interest or involvement in it, but which is regulated and "managed" in this way and just accepted as "oh well, that's how it is"

Limpopobongo · 19/06/2018 17:55

I sympathise with the blogger. I would not want prostitutes parading in my neighbourhood either. Nor would i want their pimps, their minders, their "boyfriends" or their dealers. If it was happening to me then i would secretly publish vehicle registrations of all suspicious cars found circling the area and/or talking to prostitutes. I'd put it on my blog.

No punters equals no prostitutes,

Its always the same. Those with money and influence are quite prepared to dump problems on others. Whether its tarts, drugs, resettling migrants ,,whatever,,dont put them in ruralshire,,no ,,shove them somewhere poor to blight other people who cant fight back.

mummyyessy · 20/06/2018 14:59

Agree with the OP here, I feel strongly that @MNHQ needs to get involved here.

Shamelessly quiet.
