The UK Government's Response to Grooming Gangs

A couple of weeks ago, the government gave an official response to this petition:

The petition (currently at 24,000) asks for the government to set up a public inquiry into grooming gangs.

The government's response simply lists what has been done. It rejects the idea of a new inquiry.

I agree with some of what they have said. For example, they are offering compensation to the victims. However, it is quite clear that their response won't reassure the people this affects. There are grooming gangs near me. The police are responding very slowly and very cautiously... Meanwhile the problem is getting worse. I am very worried that there will be a vigilante attack by one of the parents. It's like the Jimmy Saville situation all over again. Everyone knows about it, but nobody does anything!

If we can get this petition to 100.000, the government may consider it for debate... However, I am also interested in discussing practical, workable solutions here.

The Petition asking the Government to set up a public inquiry into grooming gangs has passed the 7500 point. Three quarters of the way to 10,000 when the government will be asked for a written reply.

If you have an questions about the petition let me know. Some details:

The petition is supported by the Maggie Oliver Foundation which is a Charity for survivors
There has not been a public inquiry into grooming gangs so far. There is much research and other investigations into failings.
I am a business person and not in any way political or linked to any political party or organisation.
When you are signing the petition its important to click on the link that the petition body sends to your email address. If you don't click to confirm your signature is not recorded.
To get a public inquiry we have to show that there is public concern. The deadline for the close of the petition is Feb 2021. We have to get more than 25,000 signatures, which was achieved by the last petition in 2018. Ideally we would get over 100, 000 signatures.

The petition is Supported by a Charity helping survivors, the Maggie Oliver Foundation

Last year we learned 57 young girls were thought to have been exploited by up to 100 members of a grooming gang. There is clear public concern, and appear to be failings by Police, Social Services, Local Authorities and the CPS to protect the most vulnerable.

A public inquiry should answer: What happened? Who is to blame? What can be done to prevent this happening again? Is there a racial/religious element to this type of offending? How are survivors being supported and should more be done.

Petition is at 8,000+ it needs to get to 10,000 for a written government response. Your help is much appreciated.

Thanks for all those who have signed the petition asking for a public inquiry into grooming gangs. Also shared the link. Its open until February 2021 so hopefully we will get a good number signing to show the government there is public concern.

The Petition when over 10,000 signatures at the weekend, which is fantastic. Big thanks to all that have signed and shared the link.

The government will now respond. The response may be soon or in a few months time.

The current II CSE investigation has been criticized by professionals and survivors. Maggie Oliver recently called it a white wash.

Its now time for a proper Public Inquiry that does not shy aware from asking the difficult questions about grooming gangs. Three core questions all public inquiries seek answers to: What happened, Who is to blame, What recommendations to be put in place to prevent this every happening again.
