Bristol City Council carrying out questionnaire about strip clubs in the city - closing date 31st May

Hi everyone
Not posted for a while but thought some of you might like to respond to BCC's questionnaire on strip clubs in Bristol. The council is carrying out a consultation on its SEV policy for the city which currently allows for 3 clubs in Bristol. Many of us have been pushing for a nil cap in Bristol since the SEV legislation was brought in in 2011 and this consultation is about 5 years overdue.

The questionnaire takes about 5 minutes. To be honest, it's not very well put together or particularly helpful but it's all that BCC are offering at the moment. The closing date is next Thursday. Please also tweet and Facebook for those who may be interested.

The police are very supportive of a nil cap and have come along to licensing hearings to object.

Please also get the men in your life to complete it too as I think responses from men will be welcomed (sad but true).

Thanks all!

Thanks. Response submitted. I live around Bristol and don't want this near me.

ElanoraHeights · 26/05/2018 10:25

Brilliant - thanks so much to everyone who has completed the questionnaire. I'll keep you posted on the outcome of the policy review.

Does it ask for your post code? Happy to support you I don't want to get to the end and then discover I will have to insert a postcode (several hundred miles from Bristol )

FermatsTheorem · 26/05/2018 10:37

Good question, Lass. Actually I personally think the views of non-residents are important - because these issues tend to be used as precedents ("Well, look, you can't object to more strip clubs in Basingstoke, because look at how many Bristol already has...")

LassWiADelicateAir · 26/05/2018 10:49

Done- there are no questions about address or post code.

ElanoraHeights · 26/05/2018 11:14

No, it doesn't ask for address details (I should have made that clear) and good point FermatsTheorem. We are hoping that, if we do get a nil cap, it can be used as a case study for other cities. We are following the judicial review in Sheffield very closely as this could end up being applied to other cities.

Thanks for completing it Lass. I think it is relevant for non-residents to complete as you might visit Bristol or send a child to university here someday.

Hi all
Just wanted to bump this as it's the last day for the questionnaire today. You don't have to live in Bristol to fill it out.

Radio Bristol are doing a phone in on this at the moment in case anyone wants to call in. I'm at work unfortunately so can't do anything other than text.

OP posts:
ElanoraHeights · 31/05/2018 09:41

Text number is 81333 and you need to put BRISTOL at the start of the message if anyone wants to get in contact with Radio Bristol this morning!

Monstamio · 31/05/2018 09:41

Done and bumping. It doesn't ask for any personal information at all. Just generic profiling stuff.

ElanoraHeights · 31/05/2018 09:50

Excellent - thank you Monstamio

The female manager of the two strip clubs in the city is all over the local radio this morning and no doubt all the punters going into the clubs will have been given the link to fill out before they can have a private dance!

MyAuntyBadger · 31/05/2018 15:13

Done and bump.

LangCleg · 31/05/2018 15:32

Done. And another bump.

gendercritter · 31/05/2018 15:38

Have taken part.

Last day to do it everyone! Who the hell ticks agree to having any sex establishment near children or a women's refuge?

Effic · 31/05/2018 15:42

Done

ElanoraHeights · 31/05/2018 16:28

Thanks all - hugely appreciated!

And yes gendercritter - the questionnaire is bonkers! It's also odd not to have a section for text responses or to say in what capacity you're responding. There are some experts in the field who have replied but there's no way of them saying this in the responses. Unfortunately, it's all we've got and hopefully the council take note. The phone in on Radio Bristol this morning was on this. I couldn't listen as I was in work but am not sure my blood pressure could have taken it anyway!

Bump -this is still open for responses.

They refer to "Sexual Entertainment Venues" but I wanted to comment that they really mean "Male Sexual Entertainment Venues" as these are for men.

Even the ref to "Hostess Bars" Envy

ElanoraHeights · 31/05/2018 22:31

Yes, good point Anlaf .

I made the point at the last hearing that if we were talking about clubs in which men got their clothes off...well, we wouldn't be at a licence hearing because they never would have been allowed to open by the usually male licensing sub-committees.
