Has anyone here fought an equal pay case?

Found out today that someone (male) who is junior to me (I am senior management, him middle) is paid more than me. Not sure what to do with this info. Anyone dealt with similar who can advise please? Thanks

Thanks, I've read the ACAS stuff and stuff from my union. Will call them both when I have a moment, but is difficult to find time/a quiet/safe place to make that kind of call.

Have you asked for a raise? I'm in the process of it at the moment as my role doesn't reflect the right salary and women in my company are paid about 25% less than men. It's a male dominated industry and doesn't make sense to me.
I don't have actual values of who's paid what, just the survey results they completed but it should be enough I hope to justify my point about being undervalued.
I can't wait to hear what they come back with.
The survey is one that UK companies with over 200 employees had to complete a month or so back. I hear Irish companies may have to do the same soon. Should have interesting results.

It would be helpful before you do that, to think about what you want; do you want a pay rise, an apology, do you want them to be held accountable etc etc?

Hello, I have. I tried negotiation first, got fobbed off. Lodged a grievance, unbefuckinglievably lost, but appealed and won. Got equal pay backdated to when I started the job. It certainly blotted my copybook though.

How did it blot your copybook, Some?

I want them to be held to account. It's not so much the pay but the overt misogyny of the workplace that is really getting me down. It's evident in many areas of work life, but this is the first time I have something real I can do about it (perhaps).

I fought one and won - or rather my union did on our behalf (many tens of women involved). One of the things it involved was finding male colleagues prepared to put themselves forward as comparators. I think it helped that because there were so many of us, we could demonstrate a consistent pattern of women being paid less than men, not a one off quirk. I suspect that may be your biggest challenge as an individual fighting such a case. Hopefully ACAS and your union's legal team will be able to advise you.
