Sexist harassment routinely in everyday life

A man punched my car today, hard, as I reversed into a carpark. When challenged, he claimed to be helping me park by warning me that I was nearing the back of the parking space. Which I knew, and did not need any of his help in ascertaining. Frankly, I could also do without the distraction of having my car punched loudly as I complete a simple reversing manoeuvre.

The man hit my car so hard that I sounded like I had hit something with my car. I believe that was the intention. To frighten. Interestingly, he seemed oddly pleased with himself afterwards.

Would a man ever, out of nowhere, punch another man's car, to help with parking? The very idea is laughable.

I have started this thread as I believe that women put up with a lot of routine, everyday NON-sexual harassment in the public sphere, in addition of the well publicised harassment of a sexual nature. I thought it might be worth a conversation.

Does anyone else on this board experience strangers (usually men) intruding to "help" you perform some task that you are perfectly adept at, or to give you a very polite telling off for some non-existent procedural infraction? Instances of real-life concern trolling?

Out walking, looking at my map. Plenty of offers of help. Checked with dh. He is never offered help like that.

A bloke punched my car right by my DD's head, she was probably about 7 or 8 at the time to "help" me not run him over when he stepped out right in front of me Hmm.

Being told how to do my job by men who do not know how to do my job but they might have read about it once. Yup.

Yes, so embarrassing. I once was looking in the HotDog section for a type that I wanted and one of workers asked if I needed help. I said that I was just trying to find the right type. (TOTALLY NOT SEXUAL) Then he came over and said "well we have long ones, thick ones, dark ones, these burst at the end when you finish them" YEA, SO GROSS. I just looked at him confused and my best friend heard everything (she was 3 feet away) busted out laughing. I didn't say anything. Just grabbed one and walked away. He ended by saying "in my defense, she asked for help." Oh hell no, i didn't ask for anything.

My best friend continues to tell everyone that story and calls it Lana's wienie story.
