Guess how I got suspended from the Labour Party?

IAmDavidLewis · 22/05/2018 23:17

Well, one of the weirdest days in my life concluded with me receiving a letter informing me of my immediate suspension from the Labour Party. They believe I may have breached the rules by subverting the intention of All Women Shortlists, Women’s Officers or minimum quotas for women. Unfortunately, this does mean that my political ambitions are on hold for a while. I shall of course be continuing to self-identify as a woman every Wednesday, as that is my gender identity...

I have to say a huge thanks to @namechangeah for all her help, guidance and, more importantly, proof-reading! I wouldn’t have gotten to this point without it. I’d also like to thank everyone for their support today. I hope this has helped a bit.

And the Telegraph called me an “activist”! Achievement unlocked Grin

I had forgotten about the eggshell comments etc.

I think I will be following up my complaint about Fae on the Jeremy Vine show again, (it was on yesterday).
I complained about her disingenuous statements, talking over Linda Bellos, and Vine's failure to control it, and address the implications of the proposed Self ID changes in any way.

"If you have a complaint about a programme you should contact BBC Complaints".

Women" rather than "Feminists" - excellent.

Yes - I think the piece is very much David's own words.

This is the item I mentioned on BBC Radio 4 today

It was Ruth Hunt (of Stonewall) commenting

“You only to look at the extent to which LGBT people are experiencing hate crime in our streets to know that the problems haven’t gone away, and there are still significant issues in some schools. There are schools that will not acknowledge specifically LGBT issues.”

Reporter: She also sees disturbing parallels today. How the gay community was marginalized back then, and how the trans community feels it’s under attack now.

“The same fearmongering. The same deliberate misinformation. And I was both not shocked and totally shocked to see a newspaper recently request that books talking about transgender issues should be banned from schools. And I thought, that’s where we are. We’ve come full circle.”

What - books like "I am Jazz" (USA) and that dire penguin nonsense (UK) - promising children a "party with all your friends and a new name Glitterball Star Cake " - read to kids in KS1? No thanks.

It's indoctrination of gender ideology - rigid gender stereotypes - IMO. Which is what we should be fighting against.

PurpleCrowbar · 25/05/2018 11:01

I noted Fae's reference to David's 'smug grinning face' RIGHT underneath the mugshot of Fae.

Which could not be smugger or grinnier....

Excellent that this is starting to get fair coverage in the red tops. This is needed to get the issues out to a demographic that might otherwise simply dismiss them as a spat between two factions - feminists v non gender conforming men - neither of which they much approve of.

Sorry in haste not RTFT so a couple of things

  • your MP is not allowed to ignore their constituents letters, so eg if you are Maria Miller’s constituent she has to reply to enquiries- make sure you include your home address so your MP knows you are their constituent.
-fermat you asked about Pip Bunce and I agree with your question, I don’t know what the difference would be from PB to David Lewis
  • my question is what is the difference between what David Lewis applied to do (apparently so wrong his party membership has been suspended and there will be an investigation..)
And Lily Madigan’s application to be a women’s officer. AFAIK made under the same rules. Lily wasn’t kicked out of the party, she was voted in, then various strange things were said about members personal data and then women began to be kicked out for complaining or asking questions about wanting an objectively female Women’s officer. All well documented on this board.

What is the objective difference between their applications? Why -if self ID that you are a woman is the only standard-, are some applications unwelcome and others valid? Genuine question.

Purple agree crucial to have this debate across ALL media - reaching as wide a demographic as possible. Fantastic to be discussed in the Sun.

Michael Briggs (Sociology Dept. Oxford) users.ox.ac.uk/~sfos0060/FreeSpeechOxford.pdf

'Free speech at Oxford:
Do women have the right to meet to discuss legislation?'

Background
The meeting was organized by Woman’s Place UK. This organization was formed after a meeting in London in September 2017 was targeted for harassment and a 60-year-old woman (Maria MacLachlin) was physically attacked by two males; one (Tara Wolf, who identifies as a woman) has just been convicted of battery
Meetings organized by Woman’s Place UK are subjected to harassment and intimidation by transgender activists (many of whom are not actually transgender). Their slogan is #nodebate. Transgender activists lie about the organization in order to persuade the venue to cancel the booking; this stratagem was successful in Cardiff in April; the Mercure hotel hastily cancelled the booking on account of ‘bigotry’, but then had to issue an apology to Woman’s Place. If the venue does not cancel, then activists will ‘show their fury with the venue by giving them a 1 star review on Facebook’ (as happened after the meeting in Edinburgh, 14 February 2018). During the meeting, protesters will gather outside the venue and shout to intimidate women entering. After a London meeting, a woman had her glasses snatched (currently under investigation by the police—the culprit is apparently an Oxford graduate). Women who are seen to attend the meetings may be targeted subsequently... "continues

(concludes)
"I have entered this debate not because I am a feminist but because freedom of speech is one of the highest values of a democratic society, and the basic foundation of university life.
Transgender activism poses a grave threat to freedom of speech."

ChattyLion · 25/05/2018 11:28

BTW by ‘objectively female’ candidates for woman’s officer that would of course include a female-bodied GNC person or a female- bodied person who identified themselves as trans. I hope that was clear.
By ‘Objectively’ I mean the objectivity of other people’s observation of a person’s sex, not about how that individual gender identifies themselves.

I noted Fae's reference to David's 'smug grinning face' RIGHT underneath the mugshot of Fae.

My thoughts exactly Grin

LangCleg · 25/05/2018 12:26

People Transactivists were questioning David's existence on Twitter last night - thought we'd made him up - which was funny, if a little strange Confused

HerFemaleness · 25/05/2018 12:57

I like this one.

Guess how I got suspended from the Labour Party?
Mossandclover · 25/05/2018 13:17

I don’t get the JF comment - the situation DL described as having happened to himself over the last few days does not happen??

MipMipMip · 25/05/2018 13:22

Not seen the overdue apology to Woman's Place - has anyone got a link?

TimeLady · 25/05/2018 13:56

Excellent article in the Sun, David. Thank you.

Simple and to the point.

ChattyLion · 25/05/2018 14:40

Sandy has completely nailed it. Love her!

Cwenthryth · 25/05/2018 14:49

Who has apologised to WPUK - I'm confused (easily done)

It doesn't seem that Jane Fae read the article before commenting on it. The contribution just reads as frothing about the audacity, rather than actually addressing the points made.

BeyondPink · 25/05/2018 14:58

"questioning David's existence on Twitter last night - thought we'd made him up"

What, like literally claiming he literally doesn't exist?! The literal violence of it!! Shock

ToeToToe · 25/05/2018 17:22

Ha! Yes - they literally erased David's existence on Twitter. I don't know if I should link to it?

Ereshkigal · 25/05/2018 17:24

Was that Katie? I saw that.

ToeToToe · 25/05/2018 17:27

Yes, it was Katie....
