Tessa Jowel has died.

There’s a good article by Gaby Hinsliff about her from last September which discusses her from a feminist perspective.

I’m sure like all politicians, there are people who disagree with some of the decisions she made during her career but she was also the person who pushed through the right for requesting flexible working as well as the driving force behind Surestart children’s centres. Two things that have been very influential in improving women and children’s lives.

Sure start had the potential to male real inroads into entrenched poverty and inequality. I also benefited personally from both of these initiatives. Masses of respect for Tessa Jo well.

I read today of her death. My condolences to her family.

RIP Tessa Jowell. Those are achievements to be proud of.
