First thing he’s done that I actually agree with.

AncientLights · 13/05/2018 18:04

Likewise. All that's happened is that the safety of ALL prisoners is being considered now and not just the select few. Do they like that? Of course not. Tough.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 13/05/2018 18:29

He had to get something right eventually!

9th Rule of Transphobia: The far-right/ conservatives are wrong about everything except transgender people.

9th Rule of Transphobia: The far-right/ conservatives are wrong about everything except transgender people.

Except they're not - they're right about a handful of things, and liberals agree with the trump administration on a small number of things too. They just don't focus their attention on it. This is an issue that many on the left are coming to feel quite strongly about. It's just taking a while because women are being silenced.

“9th Rule of Transphobia: The far-right/ conservatives are wrong about everything except transgender people”

Ooh!
An homage!
Are there more?
are any of them about real snarling punching sneering throwing -physical-objects threatening -trans -people -with -physical -harm -transphobia? That violent men do all the time? Are doing tonight probably?
Or are they just about women talking about being women?

speakingwoman · 13/05/2018 23:44

This chopping and changing of the laws must be very distressing for dysphoria teenagers.

What is Trump’s problem with trans people in the military?

ArcheryAnnie · 13/05/2018 23:46

Thing is, Trump isn't doing this because he gives a single shiny shit about women. We know this.

It's not a long-term victory because Trump is pushing the "trans rights are just like gay rights" angle that trans activists, falsely, have also been pushing (except Trump's angle adds "...and we oppose gay rights, too"), and that ultimately does women no favours at all.

On the other hand, in the short term, this does (accidentally, from Trump's point of view) give a shirt=term measure of protection to women in the US penal system, which is at least something.

SarahCarer · 13/05/2018 23:50

I have nothing...nothing in common with that mysogynist abuser. I will not celebrate anything he does.

Bufferingkisses · 13/05/2018 23:54

Sadly, once again, the tiny minority of truly trans people will be hurt by this. Left even more vulnerable and made whipping boys for the TRAs.

It stinks in all honesty. True trans people deserve better. It's a crying shame that they are being thrown under a bus by the TRAs and, apparently, governments now.

Fastingisrubbish · 13/05/2018 23:56

And if he did something you wanted to see happen *sarahcarer"
*, like set up laws that helped abused women and there didn't seem to be any major forces working against it? Would you be neutral, stand against it because it was done by the wrong person or could you ever see yourself supporting it?

Terfing · 13/05/2018 23:59

I agree that this isn't necessarily a victory for feminists. trump is doing this because trans people are a minority, an "other", not because he supports women's rights.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 14/05/2018 00:03

Of course Trump isnt doing this in support of women's rights! still cant believe he's POTUS

SupermatchGame · 14/05/2018 00:07

Except they're not - they're right about a handful of things,
I will amend Fasting. How's this?

9th Rule of Transphobia: The far-right/ conservatives are wrong about most things except transgender people.

Fastingisrubbish · 14/05/2018 00:09

I think the "rules of misogyny" have hit a nerve. Before they appeared there were never any "rules of transphobia"...

That isn't to say that there wouldn't be valid rules of transphobia - but the ones that are basically "if you're a feminist you're a bigot" aren't valid.

SupermatchGame · 14/05/2018 00:09

Are there more?

Possibly.

are any of them about real snarling punching sneering throwing -physical-objects threatening -trans -people -with -physical -harm -transphobia? That violent men do all the time? Are doing tonight probably?

We already have the Rules of Misogyny for that.

Fastingisrubbish · 14/05/2018 00:11

"Does *most things except [one thing]..." make any sense? Surely it's "everything except [one thing]"

SupermatchGame · 14/05/2018 00:15

I'll sleep on it. Night.

Fastingisrubbish · 14/05/2018 00:17

Night - thanks for contributing *SupermatchGame"!

LightofaSilveryMoon · 14/05/2018 00:34

SupermatchGame:
Can you please link me to all of the so-called "Rules of Transphobia", from independent and neutral sources, and relevantly numbered?

Otherwise, I am getting the impression that you're just pissing about and have no real hinterland to draw upon.

Ereshkigal · 14/05/2018 08:57

We already have the Rules of Misogyny for that.

Which don't apply to male people, because they don't suffer misogyny. Because misogyny is prejudice against female people. Prejudice from men against transgender identified males is founded in homophobia. HTH Smile

BeyondPink · 14/05/2018 09:03

'Are there more?'

'Possibly.'

Surely there are at least another eight you can point us to?

speakingwoman · 14/05/2018 12:46

Supermatch could perhaps do with help:

1st rule: if you live in Malaysia, armed men may make you kneel in the street and recant, announcing that you are a man.
2nd rule: if you live in England, men may chase you down the street and call you abusive names because you look different.
3rd rule: some men think the tr word is funny.

but hey, why bother fighting actual transphobia when there are bonkers accusations of complicity to make?

EmpressOfSpartacus · 14/05/2018 12:56

SupermatchGame, do you feel any concern for women in the Texas prison who are having to shower with naked biological males?

If not, why not?

From an article in the local paper: “One male transgender was in the SHU (Special Housing Unit) and did not want a certain female inmate in his cell, so he told officers if the woman was put in his cell, he would rape her,” the lawsuit said. “This man was 6’5” and weighed over 200 pounds. No female inmate would be able to protect herself against such a large man."

The complaint also states that “At any time, the Plantiffs are subject to government-sanctioned rape when placed in the Special Housing Unit. ... Women have been locked in these cells for months with these men, exposed to their genitals and forced to shower in a locked cell with bi-sexual men.”
