Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Transphobia or truths?

Hi there!

First, apologise if this has been really over discussed already.

I'm pretty new to the whole self ID and trans issues and pretty shocked to discover I'm probably classed as a "Radical" feminist.

How comes it's seen as transphobia when women talk about women's rights or sex or gender?

Perhaps I'm being naive, but I haven't seen anything i would class as transphobic on MN yet? Just a lot of feminists discussing their concerns for women and girls' rights?

Looking for answers so I can see both points of view but also so I can attempt to understand what is going on here.

Thanks x

No, Rat, I cannot help you understand what a fetish is, and how that plays out with regard to AGPs under the trans umbrella. Many women more articulate and better educated than I have tried and failed. It is pointless.

Shocking to see that laid out like that Pencils.

ToeToToe · 13/05/2018 21:20

Sorry - why do I have to talk about the Stonewall umbrella? I think it's ludicrous. OK?

You absolutely don't have to. I asked a question; if you don't have an answer that's completely okay. Of course it is.

Well, I answered.

@thebewilderness

I've never heard the term ratfucking before so I google it. Except my phone autocorrected it to fat fucking and I got some erm interesting results! Confusedhaving typed it correctly a second time, i can believe what your saying but I do think it's a little of column a little of column b. I think things are much better than they were 6 months or so ago though.

I am reading this thread a little bit but after someone compared me to a bible bashing domestic violence victim blamer I've taken a step back. Given I was avoiding the main debate and just giving examples of transphobia I'd personally read on here I felt that was pretty disgusting thing to say.

RatRolyPoly · 13/05/2018 21:25

If I thought you'd answer I might ask a few more questions about that because I'm genuinely interested, but I don't fancy pulling teeth!

At the point at which my dd was assessed for referral the vast majority of children referred to Tavistock were going on to transition their identities as a minimum.

So I don't share the idea that we can be encouraged by how many with intervention end up non dysphoric. Most desistence was, until recently at least, only occurring where there was minimal intervention

A gender clinic in California currently under investigation because 100% of girls referred to them with depression were put on the path to transitioning.

Apart from that fact that you pontificate endlessly about equality and inclusivity and actually you havn't got a fucking clue who and what you are referring to.

natgt · 13/05/2018 21:43

@SarahCarer how would you know that the majority of other kids were transitioning?

SarahCarer · 13/05/2018 21:45

I researched it at the time, as you might expect
