Why did the whole tone on trans issues change here?

Was reading the Dittany thread and made me interested in how trans issues were viewed and discussed quite a few years ago. I did dn advdnced search from 2010 to 2015 and the threads way back were completely differently than today. Nearly every voice totally accepting and supportive of transwomen are women and even “a TW with a penis is a lesbian of course if they are attracted to women”

I’ve totally changed my views in the passed 3 or 4 yrs but just strange to see what seems to be a complete about turn. I wonder if the hugely pro trans posters then- still ferl the same now. It’s a bit more understandable why some claims of mumsnet being infiltrated and taken over are made.

I wonder in such threads, if it would be possible to get the initial link given in the OP from hq? As they can still see the deleted posts?

I remember that response to you FloraFox, I found it quite eye opening.

DanaBarrett I don't think that was a MN thread. I think the lesbian was posting on reddit or somewhere and there was a thread about it here.

It is nice to see that evolution of Peak Transing here, in most part thanks to the brilliant Dittany.

I thought blinkowl's six-pointer covered most of it. And yes, I think everyone was 'just being polite' in the beginning, even radfems. Now we have the no-BS approach to it all.

Vaggie: I'm seeing the term cis is referred to, not accepted, but it doesn't seem to regarded as the c-word like it is now.

Right from the very start we rejected that term thrust upon us. I think the difference from a few years ago to now is, in the beginning, we were more polite "please do not use that term" to now, whereby now we go straight to calling it out as offensive (because it is).

I think the win on that front, was getting women to realise who coined the term, who kept using it despite our (mild/polite) protests, and most importantly, to ensure that women realised what they were doing to their own class by using it for themselves/others.

Calling it Compliant Individual Signalling gets the point across rather nicely! Smile

Reading the “transwomen should play transwomen” thread - i doubt it would go the same way today. It is interesting to see the change though have the old posters changed their views at all or do all the posters who are strongly trans inclusive just avoid the FWR board or trans threads.

Given the number of posters who have stated that their views have changed I see no reason to disbelieve them, though several have mentioned they hid the FWR threads from themselves for a while. Quite likely some still avoid FWR.
