Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Why did the whole tone on trans issues change here?

Was reading the Dittany thread and made me interested in how trans issues were viewed and discussed quite a few years ago. I did dn advdnced search from 2010 to 2015 and the threads way back were completely differently than today. Nearly every voice totally accepting and supportive of transwomen are women and even “a TW with a penis is a lesbian of course if they are attracted to women”

I’ve totally changed my views in the passed 3 or 4 yrs but just strange to see what seems to be a complete about turn. I wonder if the hugely pro trans posters then- still ferl the same now. It’s a bit more understandable why some claims of mumsnet being infiltrated and taken over are made.

Ha! Found myself on the ‘boyfriend’ thread under my first ever user name, I was called out by someone for using quote marks around ‘he’ and saying people can’t change sex.

Feeling like a woman

It appears that MN Feminists became aware that it meant an erosion of women's rights about five years too late to do anything about it at that time because it was settled law.

Laws can be challenged and changed.

Laws can be challenged and changed.

Quite, and this must never be forgotten.

BeyondParody · 11/05/2018 21:06

Something I have noticed; kim147 sure used to post in fwr a lot

I think it's really unfair to say mumsnet feminism is anti trans, it's not, it's pro women.

If you look at all the tweets mentioning mumsnet at the moment, they're mostly by TRAs. They haven't given the slightest thought to why we feel like we do, even though they think we're wrong. Because it's blindingly clear how little a fuck they give about actual women.

It seems that this particular attempt to rewrite the past has not been successful. Too many posters remember that we haven't always been at war with Eastasia.

Better luck next time!

Not exactly trans, but thread about "check your privilege" from 2014

If this thread goes anywhere, can I keep all of these links please, mnhq?

Never mind, I've archived :)

Laws can be challenged and changed.

That is what is currently being proposed under the guise of equality.

Greymisty · 11/05/2018 21:30

Ok this might random but.....

Anyone else think the TRAs are running a brexit style campaign?

Anti experts, anti biological facts, slogans that fit nicely on the side of a bus...."transmen are men" bus "transwomen are women" bus "#mumsnet is transphobic" bus. Women are like the Northern Ireland of the debate no one has quite thought out how the boundaries will work out. The Good Friday Agreement was broken womens protections under the equality act will be broken...

Like I said bit random but I do find TRAs to have a right wing bigot brexit style.

(No offence to brexiters overall the fishermen put forth a good argument for leave I thought and nearly swayed me.)

Baroquehavoc · 11/05/2018 21:32

thebewilderness. Well yes, but the more men push for a misogynistic law change, I live in hope that the public see it for what it is, and push the other way.

(Does that make sense, I've had a bit to drink)

Yes to the Brexit style campaign.

Ha ha - yes. As long as we all keep daring to say it.

Of course, it's possible that mumsnet will start to delete and ban us for saying it. And twitter, and FB.

But they can't make us stop believing it. They can't legislate our thoughts. (Yet!).

More and more people are realising - every Times article, every transwoman who wins in a woman's sport category, every time LM and IW open their mouths, every trans thread on MN, even. That's why the TAs are getting so very shouty, and keep threatening us with police. They really, really need us to shut up, before more people wake up to what's happening.

Sontaran · 11/05/2018 21:43

Greymisty I've been thinking that and how a small group of men with extreme views can really change the direction of society.
