Don't quit Mumsnet

Dorade · 04/05/2018 06:47

I've seen quite a few GC women on twitter saying they are quitting Mumsnet.

As a strategy that is beyond bonkers.

While there is inconsistency in moderation and daft moves like allowing people to report posts via twitter, the fact remains that Mumsnet has been instrumental in the backlash against the excesses of trans ideology, and setting up a different forum will be completely ineffective by comparison.

I am sure MNHQ are treading a difficult line but us being able to use this forum is immensely valuable. The media take MN seriously. Lurkers are being converted at a rate of knots.

Do not go. Stay and fight.

There are also women here gone who are not satisfied with the responses they have received regarding the data breach.

They cannot afford to be targeted by terrorists through a board that is careless with data protections.

I'm very much of the mindset at the moment of not letting the TA's drive us away.

Me too - they'd bloody love that. But those two ex-intern numpties spouting their cult ideology makes me wonder how many others are on the inside, fingers stuffed into their ears and humming loudly lest they hear something that contradicts their fragile pomo dogma whilst getting a power trip out of deleting informed and clever posts of scarily intelligent women.

I just don't trust them. Some of the patronising shit and cavalier excuses they've come out with made my loyalty wither.

The best case scenario is that there are meetings behind the scenes where they are thrashing out their ideological differences and making sure that only those most committed to freedom of speech and women/mothers' right to discuss the reality of their lives, biology and structural oppression without blokes trying to police their language can have the power to moderate.

AngryAttackKittens · 05/05/2018 01:42

I don't care about loyalty, I care about being able to effectively challenge what's happening, and the safety of the women who comment here. Right now the first is in the process of being limited by a shift towards more draconian moderation and the second is being handwaved away.

If supermatch approves it's fine peeps!

Obviously TRA aggressive harassment will have done success and has had some success but, yknow, women are poinging up all over the place saying wtf. I mean what are you going to do? When you take away everything from women, and leave us with nothing to lose.. what do you think will happen? Women will fight even harder. We have a sort of cantilever ability to respond. We can and will pull ourselves up by our bootstraps.

AngryAttackKittens · 05/05/2018 03:14

There are some people who when you've seen what they do approve of them not approving of something almost works as an endorsement.

diodati · 05/05/2018 03:33

You could always leave and set up your own Internet forum.

ReportThis · 05/05/2018 04:06

I don't think quitting is the answer, here.

Coyoacan · 05/05/2018 04:28

I understand the concerns, but this forum has been an education for me and I'm sure for many like me, and I much appreciate having access to like-minded people.

whoputthecatout · 05/05/2018 09:03

thebewilderness I guess I was being rhetorical. I know what you mean. It's just that as an old 2nd waver used to dealing with the shit from the 1960s/70s I am in full fuck-off mode. I have always refused to be intimidated and I certainly aren't starting to be intimidated now.

The lesson I learned was that if you run, they will chase. They have to be faced down.

LaSqrrl · 05/05/2018 09:03

If you worry that it will all go pear-shaped here, then please PM me.

LaSqrrl · 05/05/2018 09:04

whoput: The lesson I learned was that if you run, they will chase. They have to be faced down.

Yes, correct.

Pratchet · 05/05/2018 09:05

if you run, they will chase

Second wavers so wise

dianebrewster · 05/05/2018 09:16

I peaked here too. I'm not leaving.

I'll still dip in an out of the fun side of MN, might buy the odd appliance (yes I got the steam mop too, it's fab) and will add my gender critical voice to the others in FWR.

We can be strategic, help MNHQ maintain this critical space by not rising to the TRA bait. It's not that hard to use gender neutral pronouns when talking about male bodied people who claim womanhood, it usually just requires restructuring the sentence a bit. If that is forbidden then I will reevaluate....

Jeanhatchet · 05/05/2018 09:19

Just got here.

I like it.

Fetch the bouncers. I'm a woman and I'm staying in this women's space until I'm thrown out.

Pratchet · 05/05/2018 09:20

Steam mop? What is that? I think I need one. Was going to get a mop and bucket.

dianebrewster · 05/05/2018 09:30

The steam mop will transform your attitude to grime Wink

FermatsTheorem · 05/05/2018 09:34

Jean we even have a feminist pub and everything. I've no plans to leave any time soon. (I may look new, but have in fact been around since problems with BF 10 years ago - just de-regged and re-regged in a new, more anonymous email address. I am massively impressed by women like you who have the ovaries of steel to fight this stuff in your RL names - in fact, I may be having a bit of a fangirl moment...)

Pratchet · 05/05/2018 09:34

I googled! They're really affordable plus, tell me they don't have to hang on a charger attached to the wall.

boatyardblues · 05/05/2018 09:42

Are steam mops safe to use on old encaustic tiles and natural stone flooring? If so, I’d consider one.

Pratchet · 05/05/2018 09:44

Ive got a tile floor so stone must be ok ?

Pratchet · 05/05/2018 09:44

I don't know what an encaustic tile is

boatyardblues · 05/05/2018 09:54

Encaustic tiles are the old Victorian patterned ones like you see in churches and the Houses of Parliament. We’ve had ours professionally cleaned & sealed (£££), so I wouldn’t want to fuck them up by using the wrong kind of mop.

LangCleg · 05/05/2018 09:55

Fetch the bouncers. I'm a woman and I'm staying in this women's space until I'm thrown out.

I love you, Jean!

Pratchet · 05/05/2018 09:55

Oh yes we have those too! But they were never renovated. They look dull.

boatyardblues · 05/05/2018 09:56

Restoration was painfully expensive, but worth it. /derail Grin
