A lot of Twitter transactivists think Mumsnet is transphobic. Every time women ask for a definition of transphobic, they get blocked, so you may be confused as to whether you're transphobic or not. So I thought I'd be helpful and give you a few examples of what you must not believe, if you don't want to be a transphobe.

If you believe any of the following, you are transphobic:

  • Female mammals gestate their young in their wombs. This includes human mammals.
  • Only females menstruate.
  • A penis is a male organ
  • A vagina is a female organ
  • You can find out whether your baby will be a girl or a boy by going for a scan
  • The duchess of Cambridge has given birth to a baby boy.
  • Gay men have male bodies and want to sleep with other men with male bodies
  • Lesbians have female bodies and want to sleep with people with female bodies
  • A woman is an adult human female. A female in this context, means of or denoting the sex that can bear offspring or produce eggs, distinguished biologically by the production of gametes (ova) which can be fertilized by male gametes
  • A man is an adult human male. Male in this context means of or denoting the sex that produces gametes, especially spermatozoa, with which a female may be fertilized or inseminated to produce offspring.

These are just some of the basic things you need to stop believing if you want to ensure you don't engage in wrongthink. I hope this is helpful and will guide you in ensuring that you learn to think correctly and stop being a terrible bigot.

How about
-You don't accept the mantra that "Some women have dicks"

DuddlePluck · 03/05/2018 17:15

Ian Huntley shouldn't be able to ID as a woman, and be moved to the female prison estate

I've seen someone who wrote that being called out as transphobic, so it must be a really TERFy, nasty Nazi thing to say... Angry

FermatsTheorem · 03/05/2018 17:20

Bless me non gender specific auntie for I have sinned.

Amalfimamma · 03/05/2018 17:23

@AskBasil going to hell them because I believe each and every one. Of those statements and more.

Please point me to the naughty step

Medical and biological text book publishers are going to be very busy.

TheSecretMole · 03/05/2018 17:24

These are very useful guidelines, thank you.

It would be very interesting to see in writing what Mumsnet considers to be transphobic/worthy of deletion though.

Thinking of going to listen to a WPUK meeting?

This is a campaign formed specifically to ensure women’s voices are heard in the debate around proposals to change the Gender Recognition Act (2004).

WPUK have 5 demands

  1. Respectful and evidence-based discussion about the impact of the proposed changes to the Gender Recognition Act to be allowed to take place and for women’s voices to be heard.

2.The principle of women-only spaces to be upheld – and where necessary extended.

  1. A review of how the exemptions in the Equality Act which allow or single sex services or requirements that only a woman can apply for a job (such as in a domestic violence refuge) are being applied in practice.
  1. Government to consult with women’s organisations on how self-declaration would impact on women-only services and spaces.
  1. Government to consult on how self-declaration will impact upon data gathering – such as crime, employment, pay and health statistics – and monitoring of sex-based discrimination such as the gender pay gap

womansplaceuk.org

-this means you not just transphobic but akin to becoming a member of the KKKK or Nazi party.

FermatsTheorem · 03/05/2018 17:27

@TheVastMajority - genius, but not my genius lemon came up with it on another thread.

Popchyk · 03/05/2018 17:29

"Under Bird's Eye".

Very good, Fermat.

Popchyk · 03/05/2018 17:29

Cross-posted.

I will start using it forthwith.

MonsoonMama · 03/05/2018 17:36

Don't forget facts. Just facts, generally. A loose, shifting constellation of facts. Yep, if you believe in facts, that's transphobic.

Under Bird's Eye is the best ever. It should be our motto!

I sneezed earlier. I'm pretty sure this is transphobic. Since we have established the only sure thing left in the world is that fish fingers are not transphobic, I'm going to eat four of them as my mea culpa.

Ooh, I've got another one another one!

It's definitely, definitely NEVER ok to admit you haven't got a 'gender identity'; that's incredibly TERFy and probably rather Nazi too.

I tried explaining how hard I'd searched for mine - down the back of the sofa; behind all the crap in the garden shed; in the toolbox & all the random boxes of 'it'll come in handy some day' bits & bobs I've collected over the years; even in the pockets of the purple stripy jacket I'd not worn for 4 or 5 years - everywhere. But could I find it? No. And the fact I proved unable to locate the elusive bugger means I'm definitely a transphobe. Apparently.

Mogleflop · 03/05/2018 17:54

Well in their defence you can see how literally all of Mumsnet is transphobic based on that list.

God help them if they ever read Daily Mail comments.

ErrolTheDragon · 03/05/2018 17:56

Tone and context? Context: predominantly female forum. Tone: assertive. Reckon that makes biological facts transphobic?Confused

DuddlePluck · 03/05/2018 17:56

I've got another one another one

Oops. I've also got an echo.

FWR is a hotbed of uppity women violating of the 5th rule of misogyny: Women and Feminism must be useful to men or they are worthless.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 03/05/2018 18:02

Argh I don't get the under birds eye thing.
I've seen the twitter thread and potato comments but don't get it.
