Leaked Messages Reveal How Women At The BBC Have Clashed Over Trans Rights

I’ve just spotted this story about women at the BBC discussing trans rights/self ID. Lots of women asking interesting questions but sadly the debate not continuing without walkouts and the no debate theme.

“I think womankind is big enough to embrace those on the edges,” one woman wrote.

A senior producer replied: “I would agree, if it was just a case of being nice. But it erases the meaning of ‘woman’, and you can’t define women’s rights if you can’t define women."

The comment saw someone leave the group, with another simply replying, "Bollox.”

Glad some brave women are speaking up, I hope they are not hounded out of their profession.

Simple solution. Three categories: women, men and millenials/trans. If millennial women want to step aside let them. They can then compete in sports together, share prison cells together, compete for the same representative positions in the Labour Party etc.

I grew up around someone who was "old school" mtf transsexual and i wouldn't wish their life on my worst enemy. Trans people of all shades need protection. They do because they have very real issues. They're not the same as women's issues though.

And whoever leaked these discussions has now put their colleagues in danger. Maybe if (when) the TRAs start threatening them the millenials might get it?

SporadicSpartacus · 02/05/2018 06:11

I’d like to self-ID out of being a millennial, in that case. I clearly have a GenX brain.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 02/05/2018 06:12

I want to say not all millienials think like sheep. I am technically classed as millienial and the majority of my group of friends are gender critical like me.

What is the story saying has been happening at the BBC?

QuentinSummers · 02/05/2018 06:22

Oh i see its framed as "TERFS vs Millenials" Why are older women such a threat?

Stupid article.

How about glitterqueer/pomo instead of millennials/trans? The millennial women who understand how biology and society works can then come in with the rest of the (sane, reality based) women, the old school transsexuals can remain part of the gay community, and the glitter bombing biology don't real pronouns are violence warriors can create whatever increasingly arcane rules they like among themselves as long as they realize that the rest of us are under no obligation to follow them.

Staying · 02/05/2018 07:15

Yeah, I like that idea! Somehow we'd still be called exclusionary though!

Dozer · 02/05/2018 07:32

Interesting headline/editorial spin in the Buzzfeed story, positioning it as being about “trans(womens) rights” rather than the primary issue about inequality on and off air at the BBC and lots of quite ageist and sexist assertions about women’s ages.

Presumably the BBC could easily collect data on transwomen and transmen as separate categories.

Are these kids really still millennials? I feel like they need a new name. Surely anyone who can't remember millennium night can hardly be said to have come of age then?

But then I am a grumpy xennial so what do I know!

I think this bbc thing is super interesting. It shows how widespread Gc ideas/ sensible thinking are amongst most of the older population.

Yesterday on radio 4 there was an item about justine greening’s comments about employers considering contextual factors, eg that a young man with BBB at A level from Eton vs one with the same grades from a northern comprehensive school with poor stats. The interviewees were two former etonions who went there 20/30 years ago and hadn’t succeeded at the school! How hard would it have been to find a northerner from a comp?

So Matthew Wright is living the Wright Stuff.

Hidden in this article is additional speculation on why he has decided to do so.

Very difficult if you don't associate with those oiks

(signed a northerner from a comp)

AngryAttackKittens · 02/05/2018 10:32

But how does one get in touch with such a person? We keep putting notices in the newsletters sent out to former Eton pupils and don't get a single response! Could there be a problem with our approach?

Howyoualldoworkme · 02/05/2018 10:53

Reading the comments under that Buzzfeed article (some of which are, well not to beat about the bush, insane) I'm noting some familiar styles and spelling mistakes. "Lavendar menace" etc. .
Just musing...

TerfsUp · 02/05/2018 13:48

Buzzfeed is just as woke as The Guardian and just as useless when it comes to anything resembling proper journalism. Not surprising when you know that it was started by the man who was passed over for the job of editor-in-chief at The Graun.
