Apparently he's leaving his talk show over comments made by Ann H on the show.

Is he a TERF? Has his trolling of MN peaked him?

Ludicrous.

Paris Lees said she wasn't bothered by it; Matthew Wright didn't say it, didn't need to apologise; Ann Hegerty might have aplogised, if someone had asked her, but as Paris Lees says much the same thing about herself on a regular basis, I doubt anyone would... and THERE WERE NO COMPLAINTS!

Much as his television persona irritates me, I can only wish Mr Wright well in finding something more enjoyable to do with his working days!

Wanderabout · 01/05/2018 18:47

If this is true GOOD ON YOU Matthew Wright for having principles and sticking by them.

Someone stating a fact that someone used to be a man is not something to apologise for FFS.

Wanderabout · 01/05/2018 18:48

Is a man in fact not used to be.

ScienceIsTruth · 01/05/2018 18:52

Well, he's just gone up in my estimations, and so has she, although she always struck me as pretty plain speaking.

All Anne did was state a biological fact; however Paris presents nowadays, there's no doubting the fact that PL is biologically male, and that won't change.

Anne was only wrong to use the phrase "used to be", everything else was factually correct.

JessicaJonesJacket · 01/05/2018 18:55

I'm hoping he mentions it the round of interviews he will no doubt embark on, because the BBC etc are determinedly not mentioning it in their coverage of his decision to leave.

I can't believe we are so far through the looking glass that a host refusing to apologise (for a guest stating a fact) is seen as both revolutionary and laudable.

ScienceIsTruth · 01/05/2018 18:57

I don't always agree with Matthew Wright, but he always comes across well, seems like a laugh and is a good host. I think he likes to stir a bit (guests and callers), which always makes for great TV.

Good on him for sticking to his principles. I also hope he easily finds something else and that HE gets an apology from CH5 for such a ridiculous action.

AnneLovesGilbert · 01/05/2018 18:58

Bloody good for him. And Anne.

Channel 5 are pathetic.

CadyHeron · 01/05/2018 19:03

I saw he was leaving on a post elsewhere earlier, and was Sad.
Love him, won't be the same without him.
Didn't know that was the reason why them.Bloody good on him if that's the case.

BeyondParody · 01/05/2018 19:19

I'm not generally a fan, but he can have some cookies from me if this is true. Good man. 🍪🍪🍪

Crocuspie · 01/05/2018 19:24

I have moaned about him stealing mumsnet topics (on a regular basis) but I enjoyed his show and didn’t watch it if he wasn’t on. He always came across as not being stupid, which is not the norm on daytime tv.
He didn’t have anything to apologise for.

Rufustheconstantreindeer · 01/05/2018 19:26

Agree with the other posters on here

I was really irritated at times but generally I enjoyed the show and wouldn't bother with it if he wasn't on

So I won't be bothering with it in future

Horsedogbird · 01/05/2018 19:29

Gutted. Will they still call it The Wright Stuff though. Won't be the same without him.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 01/05/2018 19:31

Don't know how TV stations work, but if Lee's wasn't fussed by it, maybe Willoughby has complained vociferously?

AnitaLovesVictor · 01/05/2018 19:32

Well good for him.

I've never liked him much - but always impressed by someone sticking with their principles.

Like he said, it's a fact. I don't think any of us are actually unaware of the fact Paris Lees was born male are we? Paris talks about it enough.

HoneyDragon · 01/05/2018 19:35

I’d heard rumour of this yesterday I really don’t see who he would’ve been apologising.

I like him a lot; it’ll be a massive loss to C5

OlennasWimple · 01/05/2018 19:39

This is all very odd

PL said at the time that she didn't think that Ann meant her comment maliciously and appeared to move on from it with good grace both immediately and in the following days. As others has said, Ann didn't exactly "out" PL, given that the reason that PL gets gigs writing and appearing on TV is because PL is a transwoman.

So other people have been outraged on PL's behalf and, presumably, pressurised the producers of the Wright Stuff to get Matthew to make an apology Hmm

OlennasWimple · 01/05/2018 19:46

I also want to make one other point arising from the Mirror article linked upthread, but in case my post gets zapped for some reason I've put it separately from my first post

www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/real-reason-matthew-wright-quit-12460227.amp

I was always bemused by the incident with Ann spouting on about "old boys clubs at the top", given that Ann had a privileged upbringing and PL is decidedly - and proudly - working class. The sorts of old boys clubs being implied are equally off limits to PL as Ann Confused

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 01/05/2018 20:11

It is highly odd. Paris was right about the old boys' club. Ann was wrong about it, factually correct about Paris' sex, but tbh I can't see Paris taking offence at that 'fact' and has said as much.

I think that Wright would have been steamrollered into making some completely inappropriate statement re. all tranwomen are women bollocks and said fuck you.

Good for him

BeyondParody · 01/05/2018 20:27

Yes. Paris was right in the argument, and the fact Paris was born male was indeed irrelevant as Paris' upbringing was working class (if "medically correct" - to quote MW)

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 01/05/2018 20:34

At the time I read it as a bit of a misunderstanding, that she in that moment, misthought that old boys club essentially meant patriarchy. I could be way off though...

AnitaLovesVictor · 02/05/2018 02:03

Yes I agree. I thought so at the time. You only have to work at a London Investment Bank (as I have) to see the OBN in action. You only have to look briefly at politics to see it.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 02/05/2018 02:53

I’d like to see this a direct quote from him because I only see it as “sources say”.
I do hope it to be true. I’m not a fan of MW’s show but I do believe he sticks up for his principles, so I’d like to hear what he has to say.

LaSqrrl · 02/05/2018 04:59

Matthew Wright 'a good man'?

Didn't he trade in his 'old wife' (and kids) a few years back?
Yes, I believe he did.

TrumpTrump · 02/05/2018 05:13

Wow! This is great news, in an odd way. If true, then my opinion on him has gone right up! Smile
