Sorry, that took some doing!
You must read this from twitter. You won't believe it!!!

Yeah.... she’s lucky the birth went well. Surely someone with an ounce of common sense would not have flown long haul in her third trimester and would have gone to a hospital when they landed rather than googling stuff and giving birth in a hotel room.

FermatsTheorem · 27/04/2018 07:22

Hmm, the way it's written - I am having a major credulity failure here. This (the original Twitter thread) is troll bait. I'm afraid you've been had, OP.

AliciaSJ · 27/04/2018 07:43

Awwww, really? It was on World Service too!
Well, that's peed on my chips hasn't it?!
:(

If it was on the world service hopefully they fact checked it. But aside from the style (and subject matter - there was a long standing troll on here who claimed not to have known she was pregnant till she gave birth - not unheard of, but also the kind of subject matter that's troll catnip) it's the details.

She had a really cheap flight from the US to Germany with a 17 hour layover in Turkey - so instead of being reduced to sitting in the airport for 17 hours (like a normal budget traveller) she could clear customs and go to a hotel. She went through customs cramping and sweating profusely and no-one pulled her over as a suspected drugs mule. All the details -vegan on flight, checking the newborn's star chart while she waited to deliver the placenta, calling him Xay! It's like a badly written piece of fanfic. And as some people have mentioned on the Twitter feed, also the details that are left out - nothing about what the baby looked like, sounded like (I remember the anxious wait for the first cries), how the mother felt towards him. It's all "me me me" - just reads (to me) like a fantastist.

Disclaimer - I could be wrong. I've occasionally reported on here and been told the poster is genuine. Mind you, I get it right more times than I get it wrong.

AliciaSJ · 27/04/2018 08:37

Well now you put it like that!!!
I'm a sucker for a good story with a happy ending! Suzanne Moore too. We've been had I tell you. 😂

Read about it on buzzfeed yesterday.... if she were trolling would buzzfeed and world service pick it up?

FermatsTheorem · 27/04/2018 08:44

Oh, I've been had plenty times myself Grin - I think it's being had which starts to hone your troll-dar (long-term user, btw, just de-regged and re-regged recently due to the rogue intern debacle). Just for my own satisfaction, I checked how easy/hard it is to pop into Istanbul on a layover and found this:
liveandletsfly.boardingarea.com/2017/12/20/turkey-us-passport-visa-ban/

Answer: hard unless you put the time and effort into getting a visa before you left the US.

FermatsTheorem · 27/04/2018 08:46

I would expect the World Service to pick up on its trolly-ness - they're meant to fact check (unless it was a "weird stories from the internet; we don't vouch for their veracity" section). Buzzfeed is basically unsubstantiated shit. Occasionally you find nuggets, but it's not (and doesn't pretend to be) a serious news source.

ElenOfTheWays · 27/04/2018 11:47

You're right. I don't beieve it. Grin
