It's publicly funded too.

Shock

Im assuming they ramapaged through the library and removed all the science books?

Why would they have a display in the very place full of books about biology . Isn't the library itself transohobic Hmm

Toomanybourbons · 25/04/2018 14:12

Most things are transphobic Giles, they should definitely burn some books in the library as they probably contain all sorts of scientific facts that might hurt peoples feelings.

nauticant · 25/04/2018 14:20

There's a new binary these days. Something is either "transphobic" or "brave and inspiring". There is no in-between.

NotTG · 25/04/2018 14:39

I have written to complain and will spend the day tagging in various California Dems so nobody from the ‘Women’s rights’ party can claim ignorance if this ever breaks bigger.

Toomanybourbons · 25/04/2018 21:24

A small victory - they’ve removed the top from the exhibition and I received an email apologising

Well done! That's something at least.

Ereshkigal · 25/04/2018 21:26

WTAF were they thinking?

Yambabe · 26/04/2018 12:55

I reported the twitter account in the OP yesterday as hate speech. Twitter have messaged me today and confirmed it was in violation of their rules. The account appears to no longer exist.

I don't really use twitter much, but I will continue to "like" sensible GC views and report TRAs. Quietly and in the background. WTGLWGH right?

Icantreachthepretzels · 26/04/2018 13:20

I can't help but compare all this to last year and the Vancouver women's library. Do you remember- a small bookstore of feminist literature opened up ( I think possibly it was entirely volunteer driven, as well) and a whole load of TRAs turned up to launch and blocked women from entering, intimidated and threatened the customers, vandalised the books and pulled the fire alarm.

And here we have a publicly funded TRA exhibition, that glorifies and encourages VAWG. And what do women do? Send polite emails to the San Francisco Library explaining why this is offensive.

But 'Terfs' are the ones committing literal violence. TRAs are always the victims. And both sides are as bad as each other Hmm

utterly bonkers.

therealposieparker · 26/04/2018 16:50

Yup.

I emailed them earlier.
How can we find out who funds them? Assuming it is the city of SF?

RetroTardigrade · 26/04/2018 17:04

I've commented using their online feedback form. We'll see if they reply with any justification for this exhibit, considering its unjustifiable.

therealposieparker · 26/04/2018 17:27

It's a public library and so yes.

LaSqrrl · 26/04/2018 22:08

They may have removed one t-shirt, but if they removed all the items that promote VAW (the 'die cis scum', the baseball bats, the axes) - there really would not be much left in their 'exhibition', would there?

KittyMcKitty · 27/04/2018 08:09

I find this exhibition truly appalling for the sheer joy of celebrating and normalising VAWAG.

I really can’t get my head around how misgendering is “literal violence “ and axes and banners proclaiming “die CIS scum” aren’t? So the message to WAG is shut up and be compliant or this is what will happen to you.

RosenbergW · 27/04/2018 08:30

It was the Vancouver Women's Library which was vandalised last year:

www.feministcurrent.com/2017/02/07/vancouver-womens-library-opens-amid-anti-feminist-backlash/

A group of TAs gatecrashed the opening:

This thing at San Francisco public library is sick.

RosenbergW · 27/04/2018 09:33

Link to news story on an axe attack by a trans identified male:
www.news.com.au/national/courts-law/evie-amati-accused-of-terrifying-7eleven-axe-attack-caught-on-video-faces-court/news-story/8794ac62e74d32b1f4a192e1fb9ba8fe

When women protest actual physical and sexual attacks on us we show solidarity and defiance with hats.

When men protest women refusing to submit to their demands, they do it with bats... and axes and knives and guns and vans.

'Trans women' are men.

San Francisco library nasty misogynist exhibition. Violence against women.
Ekphrasis · 27/04/2018 09:44

And people think that the wrong pronoun is actual violence. Ffs.

Terfulike · 27/04/2018 09:50

Transwomen are men. Transexuals who recognise this are some of the coolest people I've come across. And the only ones I'm happy to call she

Ekphrasis · 27/04/2018 10:13

I find, after a year of learning, I agree with you.
