Saying that Mumsnet Users are calling for a new trans Section 28

You would think that she might take the time to check the facts before retweeting LIES all over the internet. Fuck sake. Do Labour want to lose all women supporters do you think?

Oh it's definately mimmymum who has been circulating this. Nothing like telling a pack of lies to justify their behaviour

Do you think she'd be up for a web chat?

ErrolTheDragon · 23/04/2018 16:24

Maybe someone who does twitter should post a link to the petition petition.parliament.uk/petitions/214118 as an example of what MNers (some, not all, we are not a homogeneous activism site!) are actually calling for?

Badgerthebodger · 23/04/2018 16:37

I am so bloody annoyed at this ridiculous lie which is circulating. It is the very definition of a load of shit. I would be acutely embarrassed if someone I knew displayed such a terrifying lack of critical thinking and basic research...and this woman is in an actual position of authority Shock

ArcheryAnnie · 23/04/2018 16:47

I've posted on site stuff suggesting a webchat with her. She should meet us for herself.

I'm pretty pissed off that we should be portrayed as part of a group which thinks section 28 is a brilliant idea, especially since I know many of us here (including me) did a hell of a lot of campaigning about the actual section 28, when it happened. But I would be very prepared to be patient and civil with her, because I want her to see the truth of the situation.

Bejazzled · 23/04/2018 16:52

'Tell a lie often enough'.......that's how Labour operate these days

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 23/04/2018 17:02

It was only a matter of time before they started telling lies. Don't worry about it.

The first political march that I was part of was against the implementation of Section 28

R0wantrees · 23/04/2018 17:09

Bear in mind that anyone who has been deemed 'terf' and mass blocked will have only a partial view of what is being said on twitter.

Anyone who has signed into shared 'terf block lists' to 'protect' themselves from 'transphobia' will be not see comments which challenge misleading statements / propaganda etc.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/04/2018 17:14

Really? Wtf is the point of that? (I don't twit, just look at the odd link like this one). Twitter is such a ludicrous means of 'communication'.

ArcheryAnnie · 23/04/2018 17:23

There's a nice reply from HelenMumsnet in Site Stuff, if anyone wants to go take a look!

ErrolTheDragon · 23/04/2018 17:30

I can't work out if the latest comment is supposed to be praise or an insultConfusedGrin

Eugh I’ve had this show up in my Facebook timeline and have been accused of supporting Section 28 by a friend of a friend

Yeah sure, women and gay people are in here supporting that. Hmm

Havoc · 23/04/2018 17:58

She has this statement on her website:

Recognising misogyny as a hate crime is not just about data collection. It’s about telling victims that you recognise the impact of what has happened to them, it’s about giving women the confidence to speak out, and it’s about making it clear to everyone that misogynistic behaviour will no longer be tolerated.

She didnt even read Mumsnet. She is too busy scoring points against her political opponents that she doesn't care that she is contributing to stopping women speaking out.

MNHQ have asked in site stuff if anyone else thinks a webchat with her is a good idea - you can say yes or no here.

poshme · 23/04/2018 20:18

Just to correct- she didn't resign, she was sacked. For speaking the truth.

Spending2muchtimeonMN · 24/04/2018 00:07

I'm pretty pissed off that we should be portrayed as part of a group which thinks section 28 is a brilliant idea, especially since I know many of us here (including me) did a hell of a lot of campaigning about the actual section 28, when it happened.

I was a young lesbian in school when section 28 was in force - I didn't know any other gay people to be part of a protest with then but did my own little mini protest at school anyway! As a young adult I was involved in campaigning for its repeal. I am appalled that they are trying to use this to smear feminists.

I didn't think I particularly respected politicians (even Labour ones) - but I must have had some level of respect for them in the past because I have been so shocked by their behaviour. Not for disagreeing with my view but all the other behaviour - such as just mindlessly repeating lies without bothering to check them out and without listening to women.

UpstartCrow · 24/04/2018 00:40

I'm starting to think her twitter feed is managed by staff.

IntelligentYetIndecisive · 24/04/2018 01:19

If it is, they're hardly doing their 'due diligence'.

When did the people we elected become so credulous that they'd accept whatever is written and handed to them without checking sources?

A huge portion of the current trouble was caused by TRAs being emboldened by being consulted by Parliament. Who accepted whatever they were told.

misscockerspaniel · 24/04/2018 08:18

She (or someone on her behalf) appear to have read the comments under the relevant tweet as there is a short response to one of the tweets 13 hours ago "from" Sarah Champion. But no sign of an apology.

BlackeyedSusan · 24/04/2018 10:58

sarah, have the courtage to admit you were wrong and did not fact check.

have the courage to listen to women's points of view.

or does courage only apply to women 100 years ago?
