Orwellian? Ah, the irony.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 23/04/2018 14:27

LOL @ Orwellian.

Real, literal violence = physical interaction where someone is / has potential to be hurt. Can result in injury, criminal charges.

Disagreeing with someone on the web = disagreeing with someone on the web. Results in sulking.

I know that sounds flippant but I’m seeing this narrative of violent feminists again and again and if you repeat a lie often enough...

Where is the real, literal (in the proper sense, not the sulky toddler sense) violence propagated from women towards men in this issue? Because I see none.

What I DO see are countless threats from men to women, and incidences of real (actually real, actually literal) violence such as Maria Mac being punched.

Why is this not being pointed out in the media?

Oh dear...

An MP trying to smear Liz Truss by propagating the 'section 28' lie.

Wanderabout · 23/04/2018 14:44

Sarah Ditum's tweet on the latest Pink News 'story' nails some of this too:

*Today 14:41 Wanderabout

Sarah Ditum's tweet on this 'story' nails this one:

FFS "users" here = one data-protection-flouting ex-employee's interpretation of what one poster said. And if anything is like Section 28, it's the mad enforced silencing of the idea that children might actually not be "in the wrong body", in favour of blanket "affirmation".

Gender GP Dr Helen Webberley's article on Sunday explains why young people may self-medicate:

The concept of self-medicating was not one that I encountered before I started my work with transgender patients. People with diabetes or high blood pressure, angina or epilepsy would not look to the Internet or local gym to source their medication. They would go to their GP and they would get the help they needed. If the condition in question was outside the knowledge and skills of their GP, then they would be referred to a hospital consultant. The NHS constitution states that you should start to receive specialist treatment within 18 weeks, but it is well known that the waiting times for accessing help for gender variance is far in excess of this.

So is it any wonder that children and adults are self-medicating?

It is well known that the waiting times for accessing help for gender variance is far in excess of this.

What exactly do you mean by 'help'?

Is access to a psychologist a longer wait than other similar disorders?

I'm sure that people self-medicate with alcohol and drugs while they wait, but this is different - these are perminant physically altering drugs and young people are diagnosing themselves over the Internet. You seem confident that the confused youth has got their diagnosis correct and the treatment they need.... Hmm

Quote is from Dr Helen Webberley's article. She is part of 'Gender GP' which is a private practice providing online consultations, specialising in Gender Issues.

I'm sorry I missed the quotation marks.

Dr Helen Webberley has recently been cleared by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS). She was suspended for a period of time whilst a complaint was investigated.

cromeyellow0 · 23/04/2018 19:09

Dr Webberley is quite the entrepreneur as she also runs a service for expats:
www.mywebdoctor.co.uk/expats/

(I first heard about this branch of her business on FWR, sorry I can't give credit as I forgot who pointed it out.)

Terfmore · 23/04/2018 19:47

"Dr Helen Webberley has recently been cleared by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS). She was suspended for a period of time whilst a complaint was investigated."

I don't think that is correct.

Name Helen WEBBERLEY Reference No. 3657058 Area of registered address Gwent Type of order The tribunal determined to maintain an interim order of conditions, with varied conditions, subject to review.

Some conditions were lifted but it is not completely resolved.

The issue of waiting times etc. There is next to no consensus amongst the medical profession about gender dysphoria (which some say is an insulting term in itself). The WPATH standards of care don't seem sure about diagnosis.
The state/we should not pay for something which has such a questionable evidence base.

Some people are sad. Some of those sad people are children. It is not the govts responsibility to make all the sad things go away. Down that path is the kind of liberal - oppressive state that right wing libertarians speak against (and from what I see I think they have a point).

R0wantrees · 23/04/2018 19:53

Terfmore I'm very happy to be corrected... I couldn't find a clear statement.
