It seems to me that TRAs call us transphobic because we say transwomen can't be women, we say that if they are women then this pushes many of us not to be because it is defined by identity (which many of do not share) and not biology. So the only answer in the long run is to have two different sets of words - one denoting identity and the other biological sex. We could have wom - they can have woman

No they can't have woman.
I'm not a wom.

spontaneousgiventime · 21/04/2018 16:00

I am a woman, I am a human adult female and I am not giving that up.

athingthateveryoneneeds · 21/04/2018 16:01

Why should we give up our words? Let them make their own categories, thanks.

drwitch · 21/04/2018 16:11

I'm only half serious but words like wom, wimmin etc have been used by feminsts in the past to describe themselves (as they do not have a male word in the route - so wom not wo-"man" , fele not fe"male") and its seems to me that we can't force people to use different language but we can use different and new words if the meaning becomes degraded

This.

Also... it's not about the words. If we say "okay, you can be women. We'll leave you to it. We'll call ourselves qwerty instead" they'll soon claim they're more qwerty than we could ever be. It's about them wanting to be whatever natal females are.

yes. It's a land grab. If we move they'll just come after our new spot.

For some people any concession will just trigger a new demand.

got to fight it I'm afraid.

Loved that book. Snorting at the memory of pehoes

drwitch · 21/04/2018 16:21

Do you think they are all like that, i think most of those that have drunk the kool aid on this are reasonable deep down and having these different terms would make them think again. but I don't know
by the way "the daughters of egalia is a brilliant book" especially in this current climate

We already have 2 sets of words, women and transgender, or trans women.

Sex and sexual orientation are protected characteristics, so is gender reassignment. That isn't enough for trans activists, even though its been accepted by transsexuals for decades.

drwitch · 21/04/2018 16:26

but they interpret woman as "hair flickers" so transwoman becomes "not proper hair flicker" - i don't understand it but this is what they think

MsMcWoodle · 21/04/2018 16:30

Sorry but this is daft.
The word woman is already taken anyway.

lovetheway · 21/04/2018 17:37

What about wimoweh? Then we have a song to go with it!

LangCleg · 21/04/2018 18:04

I'm going with two definitions: women and non-women.

Women = adult human females who know sex is immutable.

Non-women = men and the entire "I identify as..." crew.

It's the feminist version of the Greens approach. Re-name and expand the man box for all and sundry.
