I like the idea of a thread featuring a short summary of some of the media attention women (and feminists) get. Some of today's examples:

Mary Beard speculating on the reason she was largely cut from the American version of the BBC's Civilisations series:

The Indian PM is under fire as girls continue to be beaten, raped and killed on his watch:

And in other Commonwealth news, Sadiq Khan includes Justin Trudeau as one of the "two leading feminists in the world":

''Tammie Jo Shults, who landed crippled Southwest plane, was one of first female fighter pilots in U.S. Navy''.
''One passenger was killed and seven others were injured, but the toll could have been much higher had it not been for Shults' quick thinking.''

OP one of those stories is about a man anointing another man as a leading feminist. I guess that is pretty representative of what the media and men think about women and feminism - men do it better.

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 19/04/2018 14:32

If Justin Trudeau gave a shit about women, he'd recognise that sex comes before gender identity.

BrashCandicoot · 19/04/2018 15:04

That one was a bit tongue in cheek Flora Smile

The Maths comp is a lovely story, as is the Tammie Jo Shults one!

From today's paper, www.thetimes.co.uk/article/women-call-the-tune-in-proms-celebration-of-suffrage-fbmb7fpk7?shareToken=7eefbbbb551a5f161e6791a3bc1a97c0 Female composers overtake men for new commissions for the first time at the Proms - although women are still underrepresented.

Also more comment on the ongoing sexual assault crisis in India - estimates are that 40% of the 100+ reported rapes of women and girls each day are girls, and the true figure is expected to be many times higher. The Times 19/4/18 Analysis piece The Times 19/4/18 news report

Radio 5live have done a NASA special on women in space (earlier this week). Lots of good interviews. I haven't located a catch up link but there is an article here and also some short clips on 5live home page:
