Brilliant caller's question - "what exactly IS a trans child?"

SmurfNotTerff · 17/04/2018 09:48

Was that first caller Posie Parker ?
If so good on her, if not good on the caller

SwearyG · 17/04/2018 09:49

In a change to normal radio interviews they listened to two women and no transactivists in the phone in! A stark contrast to the BBC approach.

womanhuman · 17/04/2018 09:50

Even though the scouts are mixed sex, I’d still expect that males and females don’t share mixed sleeping quarters.

I don’t know what their actual policy is though.

SmurfNotTerff · 17/04/2018 09:50

Yes sweary how refreshing

Trousersdontmakemeaman · 17/04/2018 09:50

Yes that was Posie Parker

Waddlelikeapenguin · 17/04/2018 09:52

Placemarking for later Smile
If JHB would just tweet the petition it would make such a difference...(pretty please)

Just found this! Is there a "catch up" link by any chance?

Melamin · 17/04/2018 09:57

You can register with their website for listen again, and sometimes things are put up on you tube - check Julia Hartley Brewer's twitter for this.

I wonder how many other mothers like me are deciding that perhaps Guiding is not the best organisation for their daughters?

AngryAttackKittens · 17/04/2018 10:01

Also if you're a girl in the wrong way then you're not a girl, and we're going to gently encourage you to leave. Yay for supporting girls!

Really important to consider that in the implementation of transgender inclusion policies that seek to support those people born male, the impact on girls and women participation should ALSO be taken into account and at the least, monitored.
Whether in sports, girl guides, supportive services or safe spaces some girls and women may lose their place or quietly withdraw. Those girls and women must also have a voice and their needs respected equally. Policies where the only comment is to 're-educate' or state that the girl/woman should therefore themselves be excluded are in this respect inherently sexist.
The reasons why girls and women may feel unable/unwilling to share certain spaces/services with those born male should not be so easily dismissed as 'bigotry'. Those who have contributed to a climate where this is even possible must consider the wider, serious implications....

MargeH · 17/04/2018 10:10

My five year old granddaughter starts Rainbows tonight. I won't be encouraging her or her mum to withdraw, as that's just giving in, but I will be watching closely from the sidelines in a way I wouldn't have ever dreamed of doing before.

I can't believe we're even having this debate in 2018.

DJLippy · 17/04/2018 10:10

How is it safe for transboys to stay alone with a group of teenage boys?

Pratchet · 17/04/2018 10:12

Excellent that JHB did not bow to the #nodebate tactic, which is to refuse to take part in an attempt to make an 'unbalanced' interview impossible. The BBC falls for this all the time. All they really have to do is reach out and request - and if the TRA say no, then that's tough luck, they were given the chance. Too often, broadcasters cave and say 'if we can't get both sides we can't go ahead'. Sorry but that's a TRA strategy that talk radio called out. Credit to them.

Juells · 17/04/2018 10:12

Read out GG statement saying all girls are welcome (!) newspeak obviously, and shame its become politicised.

What weaselly words. Nobody knows what they mean by 'girls' any more. They've changed the definition, so which girls are they talking about here? Girly girls? Girls who were born girls? Girls who were born boys? Boys who were born girls?

Juells · 17/04/2018 10:17

My five year old granddaughter starts Rainbows tonight.

Have you discussed the issue with her, or does she think it's a storm in a teacup?

Trousersdontmakemeaman · 17/04/2018 10:23

Girls who have submitted to domination.

It's like the surrendered wives movement.

Melamin · 17/04/2018 10:29

and shame its become politicised They politicised it by changing their safeguarding and became a 'single gender' organisation. Just because they did it quietly does not mean it was not a political act. Just because it may not have been their personal political act does not mean it is not political. They did not choose to do this in a vacuum.

To those who have asked, scouts are open to both sexes, however they identify.
Their policy is here on their website:
members.scouts.org.uk/supportresources/4228/gender-identity-supporting-young-people?cat=377,378&moduleID=10

Note that they do not HAVE to segregate sleeping arrangements/ facilities by sex but that parents do know in advance so can give informed consent.

Trans children sleep etc as their chosen gender, if they wish.

Zeugma · 17/04/2018 10:35

Just listened again to JHB and actually laughed out loud at the supreme irony of the first ad in one of the ad breaks.

'The McCulloch Man' using his mighty mower to get the all-important lawn-mowing job DONE in double-quick time so he can get back inside to watch the football.

It couldn't have been a more perfect example of the gendered expectations society is ramming down our throats at every possible opportunity. If you're a man you mow lawns and watch football. If you're a woman you wear sparkly pink things and coo over fluffy kittens. God almighty. No wonder our children are confused.

Flowers for AgnesBadenPowell and everyone fighting the good fight.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 17/04/2018 10:36

Oh dearie.

The mad TRAs are 'not happy' about Julia HB.

It's making my morning.

But it is stopping me doing any work. Blush

And on that point, do you think they actually have jobs, because all they do all day is tweet about the 'nest of vipers' that is mumsnet and look for 'evidence' they can screenshot and tweet.

Melamin · 17/04/2018 10:43

Well, the model who hit Maria was on 'jobseeker' further down the Daily Mail page, so part-time? IW is busy with reading news and acting, when not on CBB.
