Perpetuating rape myths

How will we ever change attitudes to rape when this sort of bullshit is perpetuated by seemingly intelligent women with huge platforms.

Essentially she is claiming that it's super common for woman to get stuck, cheat on their boyfriends and cry rape.

She's a lawyer being retweeted by other lawyers

Well she's trying to appeal to people with power (men) to reverse cuts to payments the govt makes to barristers.

She has decided to appeal to them by making up a story about how a woman "cried rape" after a nice man was nice to her.

Men are much more concerned about being "falsely accused" than about women being raped so this seems like a good tactic, especially given that the press have focussed on non disclosure in sex cases even though the non disclosure was across all cases.

The story is interesting though, this "sleepy sex" where "he" didn't use a condom - it doesn't say he agreed to that - presumably there's supposed to be enough of a grey area so that it doesn't look like saying "You must give me money to protect you from women who are all crazed bitches" but at the same time that is very clearly what it is saying.

I would be interested to know how many cases of this type go to court. Cressida Dick also implied that "he said she said" happened a lot and the Met aren't going to bother investigating them any more (she actually said they weren't going to bother with cases where the people knew each other ie acquitance / date rape).

Is it me or do the cutesy memes seem way off for the topic under discussion?

KittTheCar · 14/04/2018 14:56

Well she's trying to present it from the "male" perspctive - it was all just a bit of fun but this crazy bitch has reported him to the police because she's crazy and female.

See the post sex bants with the lads texts stuff - presumably referencing the recent trial in NI with the rubgy players. Which is also a vile thing to do TBH.

I don't think the police would be interested though, I mean they notoriously aren't interested in "he said she said" and Cressida Dick has just confirmed this for the Met (in coded language).

That's the bit I found the most horrendous

Seriously, she's a twat. I was horrified to read that. I know the point she is trying to make (re legal aid etc) but of all the examples of a crime, she picks this one? I also hate how she tries to mix in all the bantz and be all cool and like 'oh of course we all know that these hysterical girls cry rape because they can't face that they cheated while drunk'. Awful. Especially so soon after the NI case.

By playing on extremely damaging rape myths. A lot of replies are along the lines of 'yeah, something needs to be done to stop bitches doing this stuff' as well. Totally the wrong message to send, totally and the legal aid point is zero justification.

KittTheCar · 14/04/2018 16:49

She knows her audience and she's trying to get more work / money.

If she can make more money by appealing to men who think women and girls are prone to vindictively accusing innocent men of rape then that's the patriarchy for you.

Certainly gives lie to the idea that every choice a woman makes is a feminist one! You do what you need to do to survive - or to thrive. Clearly this sort of thing is highly damaging to rape victims while feeding men's ideas that the things they may have done are not "rape rape" etc.

Refercing the NI case is beyond gross gross though she really didn't need to do that to make her point about hysterical lying bitches - the woman in that case has had enough of that already fro god's sake.
