WTGLWGH-a round of applause

To all the posters who keep on keeping on - I applaud you
To those that keep patient, evidence based, logical, calm, articulate and so damn reasonable- I applaud you.

I don't post much but I read. I nod in agreement. I talk to people close to me. They nod in agreement too.

I'm afraid to post - what if I express myself clumsily? Will it end up twisted and used against feminism on twitter?!?

Maybe if mumsnet are corralling this conversation into a safe space (irony?) then a special 'like' function would be an easy way for people like me to show support

But now I'm rambling and maybe opening cans of worms !! - see!!

So to the regulars here - thank you.
That goes for the posters that have a different view to me as well: conditional on the patient, evidence based, articulate criteria above. Obvs.

I've been lurking for a couple of years too and rarely post because I'm still a novice at this kind of thing and don't have the fluency that so many here display. I too applaud and thank all the calm, rational posters who just keep on going.

I've adopted a policy of talking to people about this issue one-to-one, when we're somewhere private and I've been amazed at the number who say it's relief to be able to say what they really think. So many women are just going along with it out of fear of being singled out and bullied for being a bigot. We can break this thing just by talking about it, and then when we've talked about with a few individuals getting them together so they realise is not just one or two but a crowd. That's what gives people confidence, knowing they're not alone.

Yes, it is good to get it out in real life. I think the Cardiff meeting has shown this. The people I have talked to are very surprised about what is going on.

Also, the petition petition.parliament.uk/petitions/214118.

Step one is being heard.

Nevermindthesongbirds · 13/04/2018 11:12

I'll add 'well done' too. I've been reading and wondering if I could add anything to the threads. There is so much intelligence and humour already. These things have me deeply concerned:

  • The level of hate and intent of violence on other platforms
  • The misrepresentation of GC groups or arguments in the media
  • The lazy liberal response in support of TRA, this is the next thing to be liberal about
  • The lack of a propper public political debate about the GRA...
...and more... I just can't believe how nasty some of it all is...and just for want of a discussion about how to get women and girls NEEDS met.

👏

What does WTGLWGH stand for?
I'm a perpertual lurker and admirer of Mumsnet posts too, and went to the Woman's Place London meeting which was incredible, but the acronyms on here are going to be the end of me.

When They Go Low We Go Higher Smile

It is a new one. Stops you being baited by a GF (goady fucker Wink ) and raises the level of debate.

Any more, do ask.

stokeytiger · 13/04/2018 16:06

Now it all makes sense. Thanks Melamin. Particularly like the goady fucker one

picklemepopcorn · 13/04/2018 17:01

It's a Michelle Obama quote. We are trying to channel her!

ScarletBegonias · 13/04/2018 17:10

To avoid possible doubt: I'm not sure there's any evidence that "goady fucker" is a Michelle Obama quote. Although Grin

BettyFloop · 13/04/2018 18:08

I'm fairly new to MN too - still reading way more than I post - although I've been doing real life stuff for quite some time to raise awareness and get potential parliamentary candidates on board (fairly successful with that, so far). I very much appreciate the clarity, knowledge, patience and general good manners demonstrated here.
WTGLWGH is an excellent reminder when a GF tries baiting and when I see a GF post I refresh the page thinking that I'll post WTGLWGH if no-one else has.
Someone always gets there before I do! Grin
