Good news to wake up to. I have stopped reading any comments on articles too as my blood pressure goes through the roof. The migogny is mind blowing.

Have the police been involved? They seem to have much better ways of tackling harassment than tackling sexual violence.

Bumblefuddle

Could you contact BOI? Maybe not directly about this case but about the team's behaviour?

All the misogynists are commenting now because they are angry and feel threatened. But it doesn't matter now, they've been sacked and this will seep into everyone's consciousness and show less societal acceptance for treating women badly. All those misogynists will be thinking twice about how they treat women in future.

EightdaysaweekIloveu · 14/04/2018 09:51

I hope so.

Sorry Bumble to hear what this girl is going through. I can understand why you want to be there to support her and not force anything. But I hope they are keeping record of the messages and phone calls.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 14/04/2018 09:55

bumble your feelings are right. Her support is paramount. If she doesn’t want to report then you support that. You’re doing the right thing. It isn’t about what anyone else wishes She would do. She doesn’t have to do anything about it if she doesn’t want to. She should be free to try and get on with her life without any pressure from anyone to enter into an extremely traumatic criminal trial! I also agree with you that she would never win. Sadly.

There was one comment I saw asking if the person Gilroy will also be sacked. I have no idea who he is or if he is Ulster rugby. I can’t even remember what his comments were but something about sluts? Does anyone know more than I do about his part in the conversations?

Craig Gilroy sent a message to one of them but wasn't part of the group chat and wasn't with them on the night out. His message was something like 'did any sluts get fucked?'.

treaclesoda · 14/04/2018 10:00

And yes, he's an Ulster player.

I get so frustrated with all these men saying they feel victimised and terrified of being accused of something etc. My husband, and the vast majority of the men I know, don't live in fear of women accusing them of something inappropriate because they treat women like actual humans. They keep their hands to themselves, they don't make derogatory comments on women's bodies, they don't send pictures of their genitals to women, and if a woman is drunk they would call her a taxi and make sure she gets home safely. It's all fairly simple.

LassWiADelicateAir · 14/04/2018 10:11

How would the Scottish concept of "not proven" work in a case like this?

There is no practical difference. It does not mean "guility but we can't prove it". The history of the not proven verdict is complex and it is now, in many people's view, pointless.

Alsross · 14/04/2018 10:23

Hi ladies. I've been following this thread for a few days now. I just want to say how refreshing it has been to hear these fair statements. I am so disheartened to read any comments in support of this behaviour and while I'm unsure of the whole trial outcome, I'm thankful there are many others that agree that these attitudes are not acceptable or wanted.

NotTakenUsername · 14/04/2018 10:48

donthaveascooby That’s been covered. Can we try not to muddy the waters with a “them ‘uns and us ‘uns” rhetoric. It doesn’t help.

This is equality vs misogyny. Anything else is tiresome and distracting.

sashh · 14/04/2018 11:08

Bumblefuddle

You sound fabulous, and a great support for the victim.

I have to say the reaction to the trial and what has followed has made me proud to have tiny bit of Irish ancestry, you women are fantastic, supportive, funny, and determined.

As someone else, said the thought that they'll never play for ulster again knowing that'll be the one club they wanted to play for.... its quite satisfying. Bumble I hope your girl sees this and feels even slightly heartened. I hope the girl in this case sees this and feels even slightly heartened. We hear you, and we won't tolerate these men.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 14/04/2018 11:40

Thanks all for info on gilroy. I would expect consequences for him as well then? Or is that unlikely?
